The whole axis of lyric-appreciators to sensory-enjoyers when it comes to music is very interesting to me. I tend to camp more on the sensory end of the spectrum, which is to say that when listening to music, I appreciate the sensory elements (timbre (esPECIally timbre, oH my GOD, the TIMBRE), the OOMF of the percussion, the melody, the rhythm.... basically everything that what makes music, Music) and on the other end you have people who care most about the lyrics. And. I don't understand these people and I don'nt know if i'll ever be able to understand these people.
Like, part of it might be because i'm kind of lyric-deaf and it takes me X-many listens to actually understand what the singer is saying. Another part is because I am not smart, and was never good at english class, and lack the mental apparatus to appreciate poetry, and simply don't Value the lyrics as much as the other parts.
But that's not quite it either, because even for a quasi-illiterate as I, good (for some value of good) lyrics can elevate a song, and abysmal (looking at you Rivers Cuomo) lyrics can make me even more bald than I am on track to being.
I can understand the sensory end of the spectrum, the extreme, which is instrumental music. And I suppose, ultimately, I can understand the literary end of the spectrum, which is just poetry. But I don't Get it and I don't think I ever will. And I wonder if the lyricheads feel the same way about the sensonists.
