it’s interesting how sanzu has referred to manjiro as (his) ‘king’ while senju has been alluded to as ‘queen’ in the previous chapter (queen it over). really underlines their ‘deities’ title, so i think that’s nice. yk how like monarchs before considered it their divine right to rule, ie. they were god’s representative on earth? yeah

but also this makes me think in chess terms. we all know the king chess piece is a total bum HAHA like it holds the most authority but it can’t really…move, ykwim? it needs to be ‘protected’ at all cost to the point where you sometimes have to trap it so the enemy doesn’t get to it. once the king is captured, game over, of course.

and isn’t the final arc, in a way, a battle over the king—manjiro? obv he is far from being a bum, i mean look

…but what if a Bum is what sanzu is gonna plan on turning him into? i think it’s very telling that in the brief bonten arc, we see somebody else do all the killing/fighting for manjiro, i mean he literally was just there to give orders. sanzu, of course, was the one pulling the trigger.

senju, as queen, i think has access to more power/resource, being in cahoots with the og black dragons, which means more ‘movement’. so yeah, i think she is very powerful. but it seems a little too convenient that it feels like a smoke screen, tbh. takeomi her brother seems shady enough, for one. so there’s that.

ps. i don’t know maybe this is a stretch, but in ch 206, manjiro calls sanzu a ‘wild horse.’ and yk the knight piece rides a horse or is represented by a horse, right!
