Lionesses Daily Episode 1!

There will be a new episode of Lionesses Daily every day at 5pm (UK Time) on the @Lionesses twitter taking fans behind the scenes of England’s World Cup camp.

In 1868, nine women sat a "special examination" at the University of London. They paved the way for greater reform, leading to the establishment of the general examinations and the admission of women to degrees a decade later.

Leading Women from across the world were invited to gather at the reception to continue conversations about gender equality.

At the reception, Princess Anne gave a speech in which she spoke about the significance of the decision to admit women to study.

“While this decision might seem extraordinary to us today, it was ground-breaking at the time; it demonstrates the University of London’s commitment to all students irrespective of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or social position as one of its founding principles.”

She also spoke about how striking it was to see the contributions women have made over the last 150 years, and expressed her joy at being able to celebrate those contributions today.

“Education has never been more relevant or necessary to advance knowledge and I am delighted to celebrate the role that women have played in that advancement over the last 150 years.”
