Sonic Forces: Speed Battle Might Be Canon
So as you know from my previous posts on the subject Sonic Speed Simulator is annoyingly supposed to be canon. But there is another detail is the devs imply Sonic Forces: Speed Battle might also be considered canon by SEGA.
"...th it because they are all 'phantom illusions' not sure if Sonic Dash has an excuse, might be one of the few non-canon sonic games."....... This line implies that SFSB is considered canon, while Sonic Dash's canonicity is up in the air. This detail is also mentioned in the Sonic The Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia as it brings up this detail. Giving and explanation that isn't necessary for a non-canon game. "Players are pitted against three other people in real time, although the other racers are presented as Phantom Copies. The objective is to be the first to reach the Phantom Ruby prototype at the end of the track -- by any means necessary. Gathering Rings increases your top speed, while item bubbles grant either shields or access to one of the character's unique abilities.".......
So yeah this game might be canon, and there are issues that arise from it, but first to describe what we know. This is game is a somewhat a simulated race Tails creates using the Phantom Ruby prototype as he is the one who does all the talking in the game. There is one real character that is canonically racing against phantom ruby copies whose power reflect the actual character they are mimicking. This is because a phantom ruby Sonic copy will have the same abilities as the real Sonic. Also, at least a canon non Phantom Ruby copy Eggman wouldn't happen.
So this raises a lot of issues mainly is this game would likely have to occur after the Sonic Forces but probably before the IDW Comics. This is because of the theming, name, and well stages. And how it would be weird if Tails just kept using stages from Sonic Forces and no other game.
By extension a paradox is created when he encounters characters that he should only know about if the IDW Comics and Speed Sim had already happened. As examples these include the likes of Tangle, Surge, Lego Dr. Eggman, Movie Sonic, and Sonic in the Phantom Rider.
But maybe this game does take place alongside the IDW Comics and Speed Sim, and Tails weirdly hasn't decided to use newer stages and the stages are full on simulations. You still have some questionable stuff if not canon breaking stuff.
For example, the Phantom Ruby Prototype can just casually create a Super character!!! Another being the implied abilities Sonic characters just have now. For example, Amy having ice powers and the ability to smite people.
But then you have the canon breaking characters that don't make sense to canonically show up or even have Phantom Ruby copies made of them. The first one being Sir Gawain as Tails wouldn't know how to recreate them even if Sonic told them about the adventure he went on. You also just have an issue of them leaving the storybook world and showing up in Sonic's World.
But then you have Mephiles The Dark which nobody should know about or remember. The only character who is even remotely aware of Mephiles is Shadow and I don't think he bothered to tell Tails about this weirdo in white space yapping about restoring himself to the timeline. Let alone gave a detailed and accurate description of him and his powers, so Tails could create a Phantom Ruby copy.
So yeah Sonic Forces: Speed Battle might be canon, and like Sonic Speed Sim it would break the continuity even further. Written by Eris the Lorekeeper
