#taper week

I was pretty sore after my day in the garden yesterday but we are into taper week so yah. I decided 10km would be enough for today. Hubby wanted to go to the Nursery to get some new Blueberry bushes and I wanted a Daphne bush so the plan was set. We headed to the nursery and did our plant shopping. We had to stop and admire the cat who had taken up a prime spot in the window, so cute. I may have also purchased some more indoor plants too, but more on that later. As I ran home I had a close encounter with the Hissyface whanau who took exception to me running past their salad bar. Soon after that I finished out my 10km I heard toot toot and saw a rather cool ol dude cruise up in a Mk1 Cortina. Fancy a lift? Well why not. What a great way to end a run. Race day next Sunday.

More updates! We are in RACE WEEK!!! Indy Mini W18D1 - easy 5 Ran nice and easy after work yesterday! The weather lately has been in the pits though! So cold, windy, and rainy. Hopefully it changes before Saturday! But these miles felt fine. A bit sore, but I knew because I didn't have my foam roller this weekend. And it's taper week so we all know our bodies like to make us think they can't run a little right before the race ;) Indy Mini W18D2 - easy 5 Another nice easy run today after work. More poopy weather. But I love all the easy runs during taper week :) only 2 more runs until race day!! I realized as I was running that I was wearing 3 different Detroit articles. My shirt, hat, and gloves all came from different Detroit events :) I can't believe it's RACE WEEK!! I'm getting excited for race day and excited to see what I can do! Hopefully the weather improves. Right now it's saying cold and windy. I know I could manage, but it would be nice if it improved! We will see! Happy Tuesday!!! :)

A tail wind for two days in a row.  It is almost unheard of but it happened today.  I pedalled a couple of times during the ride home but the wind did most of the work.  The temperature was in the high twenties so I was pretty warm by the time i got home.  I did a quick change and headed off out the door for a gentle 5km run around the streets of the neighbourhood.  When I got back from my run I did my usual walk around the garden.  Our mandarine tree was wilting yesterday.  It has had plenty of water so we are a bit mystified as to why it is giving up the ghost on us.  If there are any Mandarine tree experts out there your advice would be most welcome as the poor thing is not looking any better today.

Cold morning with just the stars and my thoughts. I’ve worn this shirt my mom got me at the NYC marathon when she ran 2 weeks ago for every run this week. My mom took a 10 year marathon hiatus and then decided on a whim to run NYC so the shirt reminds me of her determination and strength. Hoping to channel that same level of badass this weekend. She’s road tripping with me and I’m so very excited to have a mom and daughter weekend revolved around something we both love so much

I decided to just give in and binge watch Netflix (The Killing) and read Kay Scarpetta novels. This was an excellent plan except in reality I now think that every noise out of the ordinary is a murderer lurking in the house.

Also - I do realize this blog is about running and beer, but sometimes I come across a wine I enjoy and drink that instead. We had a mandatory wine tasting at work on Friday (what kind of job forces you to drink?!) and I begged to keep the bottle of this Robert Stemmler Pinot Noir. I'm not a wine connoisseur by ANY means, so I can't go into details about why I enjoyed this wine so much, but it was rather tasty and I finished the bottle off Saturday night after my run. (Ok, by finishing off the bottle, I mean that there was only one glass left, so it wasn't crazy town at my house. Don't judge me!)
