But seriously, how do people spend 10+ minutes flicking their hair and standing just so? This took maybe a minute and I was done about 30 seconds in.
We had three tornado warnings in quick succession yesterday - I don’t think one actually materialised but the storm front did a good job of blowing away most of the smoke.
I got to do my 10 miles outside today. I saw Thorn just as I left the house, which is always an excellent start, and my vest continues to be an excellent purchase.
Smoke season is here; I’m astounded by the number of people on my strava exercising outdoors in this.
9 mile run today. Been a while since I ran this far. I decided to run to the lakeshore and timed my run to get there as Dan finished his open water swim session. Thorn came by to wish me a good run. I saw lots of tree damage (we had a big storm a couple of days ago) but this was the most dramatic.

Tested out the new running vest today - I’m pretty pleased with it. My back got super sweaty but it was also 95% humidity so I’m not sure the running vest is entirely to blame.
Current weather. I missed the early morning run window so am aiming for the sunset window to get in my 4 miles. The gym is closed for Canada Day or I’d be doing it there.
First two weeks of marathon training done! It’s getting hot enough that I need water for my long runs so I ordered myself a running vest today.
I’ve been escaping into the trails (and the shade) when I can but today’s route had lots of little rollers so my legs felt pretty brutalised by the end!
All my running of late has been “easy” and every long run I’ve done has made me feel very unfit. I went to parkrun today for the first time in January and had a great run. I negative split each mile and surprised myself a little with the paces. A good reminder that the most effective thing I can do is be consistent and keep logging those miles.
Also, I know parkrun isn’t a race but I can’t help but try and reel people in. 🤷🏽♀️
A couple of months ago I switched to front squats instead of back squats. It’s been fun to track my progress.
Running progress seems far less linear.
We had a great escape for our long weekend.

We’ve started making plans for our summer holiday, and that includes a half marathon! This will be my first running race since… I don’t know when, maybe 2018? (Not counting parkrun)
Also because it’s spring the urban wildlife is emerging. The first two pictures are the day a raccoon brought its baby to my deck for some inexplicable reason. I scared off the adult and then realised it had left a mewling baby behind so backed off and the adult raccoon came back and retrieved it and wandered off.
The raccoon on the crossing was one I spotted from the gym window! Sadly by the time I finished my workout it had been hit by a car in the parking lot.
We had some great food in Barbados (the fish cutters at Caboose were SO GOOD that we all went back to a second round) and I discovered that I am rather partial to a rum punch.
Enjoying some warmer weather for a few days.
The swim club I joined programs all four strokes into the practices, the only one of which I’m remotely competent at is freestyle. The last few weeks we’ve been having technique sessions for all the strokes and this is what my fly looks like at the moment. Plenty to work on but pleased that I’ve reached the stage where I have enough propulsion to get across the pool.
I forgot what a rollercoaster niggles can be. I took 12 days off running and that didn’t lead to any improvement in my foot niggles (which didn’t actually niggle while running) so I started running again with a run every other day.
While things weren’t getting worse they also weren’t getting better so I made myself a physio appointment and went to that earlier this week. Well of course I came away with no real diagnosis and the stuff the physio did made the issue worse! On Wednesday I went for a run (after physio on Tuesday) and felt the niggle while running - totally frustrating and I turned around and came home rather sad.
I took Thursday completely off exercise, only lifted yesterday, and then went out on a little trot today. It was niggle free! It was also warm/humid enough for bare arms and legs. Maybe better weather is the key to being niggle free?
Anyway, both the physio and my massage guy seem to think it’s a nerve being irritated by something so we’ll keep trucking away and hopefully I’ll be niggle free soon.

Our swim club hosted a meet this weekend. We both volunteered (as timers) and Dan also swam two events. We both came back home exhausted and were in bed by 8.30pm 😂
At the gym today an older man came up to me to ask me for advice because “you look like you know what you’re doing”. And it was such a non-typical gym interaction that I had to tell everyone about it.
