Christmas Classics: Remember The Night (1940)
Remember The Night is a great Preston Sturges comedy, has the Christmas spirit, but at its core also has a larger story with a bit of intrigue to it and so many good scenes. It's funny how old Christmas films manage to be about Christmas without shoving it down your throat. Christmas occurs, yes, but it's mainly used to set a vibe for the story.
Here Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray spend Christmas together. She's a shoplifter, he's the lawyer prosecuting her and he's forced to take her to his family home in Indiana. I loved it. And I really appreciated how they didn't cop out the ending.
(This was also a great Double Indemnity reunion for me, if we don't take into account the fact that Remember The Night was filmed 4 years before Double Indemnity lol)
