#spell bottle

This year I celebrated Imbolc by crafting two spell bottles, one of which is shown in the images above. I crafted it to bring determination and hope for a brighter future. I added

Lilac salt to banish bad intentions, unneeded negativity, "ghosts of past" and hostile entities. Lilac is associated with banishing ghosts, among other things.

Clear quartz, to bring clarity and focus on the future I want to create

Fluorite for creativity

Jade beads for prosperity and abundance

Amethyst for spiritual connection and for remembering the past

Mint for health, abundance and friendship

A flower mix including sunflower and tulip petals, daisies and forget-me-nots, all dried, to bring forth a future where all can bloom

Glass beads shaped like b*llets to bring justice and lay unnecessary violence to rest

Oak leaves for wisdom

An acorn for a new beginning

Affirmations written in present tense: time for action is now, and those of us able to be the change we want to see must do so.

Fresh-water pearls to transform pain and strife into healing and beauty

Gold-colored folio (I like to use it opposed to plastic glitter for joy, positivity and new perspectives)

I used a green bottle for opportunity, wealth and luck (green is associated with those, and I specifically made a bottle because of bottle mail -> hope, trust, good news, reaching out. Those aren't universal meanings but ones personal to me.

I adorned the neck of the bottle with

two identical green glass beads for justice (as in, kinda like weights on a scale, figuratively speaking)

A four leaf clover I made using four green heart-shaped glass beads, for luck and success

Aventurine beads, for justice, prosperity

A blood-stone for steadiness and focus

Keys for new beginnings, leaving the past in the past etc

Reflector ribbon for reflection and accountability

Yarn for collective effort

I spoke my intent in the present tense for each item and ingredient. Once satisfied, I sealed the bottle with a cork and silver and golden wax. Silver for iron and steel for action, and gold for hope.

Also, this needs to be said: fuck ICE, fuck Trump, fuck anyone in the files, fuck the so-called leaders participating in and enableing the genocides in Gaza, Congo, Sudan and the "west" for ravaging the rest of the world.

I started scrap booking since I have never had the chance to do it or seem interested in it but I slowly started getting into it now. I got little inspiration from my small spell bottle that is sitting on my shelf.

This afternoon, my 2.5 year old daughter ran up to me and said, “Want to do magic, Mama!” (A proud moment for me, naturally!)

We’ve made a spell bottle together once before, so I asked if that’s what she wanted to do and she said, “yes yes yes!” So I let her have creative control on this one. I gave her some options for intentions (luck, happiness, safety, etc.) and she settled soundly on Good Dreams.

She picked out a little bottle and I gathered up some ingredients, all of which were subject to her approval. We ended up with jasmine petals, lavender, mugwort, sea salt, eggshell powder, clear quartz, and rock crystal sugar. She instructed me on what order to add everything, then I had her say some positive things into the bottle before we closed it up (“I LOVE YOU!! GOODNIGHT!!”). She picked out a pink candle for the wax dripping, then helped me focus positive energy around the whole thing. (I told her to think about good dreams while I used my pendulum over the bottle, and she said “okay!” very seriously.)

Now she has her very own Good Dreams spell bottle in her bedroom window! 🌙🌟
