Garden gave me a lot of ripe veggies and I wasn't sure what to do with kohlrabi, so we're making a big pot of broth today and canning it. I've never done this before so I'm super nervous! Here's everything I got:
Thats onions, carrots, kohlrabi, frozen bag of parsley and celery, cabbage, pepper, zucchini, green beans and tomatoes! That's a lot of produce at once. So first the carrots and onions are cleaned and cut and fried just a little bit, so they get all sweet.
Now we're cutting up and adding all other veggies, and adding water, until the pot is completely full and boiling, it smells so good! Now broth is supposed to simmer for hours like this, but I didn't wanna use up so much gas, so I took it off of the stove, wrapped it in a cloth and many towels, and left it on the couch. I did reheat it few times to make sure it was almost-boiling temperature for hours.
So now the canning part. I don't wanna can the veggies, only the nice tasting broth, so I got a strainer and clean jars, I don't have that thing that helps you pour into a jar so my situation is just gonna be holding the strainer and praying for the best.
It worked well! All the liquid just convoluted to the lowest point of strainer and it gave me no trouble at all.
I made sure both jars and broth were boiling hot, and then I'm just going to turn them upside down, and wrap them in those same towels. Since they're still at boiling heat, the lids will stick to the jars and close up to create a vacuum. I first learned this trick on youtube, from an old italian grandma who canned like 60 jars of tomato sauce this way (link), was impressed and suspicious, then I asked the plant lady if it works, and she says she's using that trick as well! But only for stuff that's been cooking for hours and when added to boiling hot jars. I'll find out tomorrow if it really worked - if I can't push the lids down, or open the jars with just my hands, they're sealed tight.
Meanwhile, I picked out all of the overcooked carrots, green beans and kohlrabi, I ate most of the greens as soon as soup was done because I was very hungry at that point, but I also wanted a really delicious lunch, so I threw them in a pan with some oil and extra salt, and they turned out wonderful!
Jumping to the next day, the canned broth is finished! I tried to wrench open each jar with my hands and I absolutely can't, the lids are tense and cannot be pushed down, so I think they're all good!
They look so magical and witchy on my shelf, honestly there's always so many herbs drying and stuff floating in jars I'm starting to get really great vibes from my place. Also this means, soup any time I want. I'll be able to do more batches like this!

Two days late, but better late than never!
First time ever making bread so in 40 minutes we shall see how it turned out! I think I messed up because it didn't rise as much the second time like directions said it should, but we'll see!
Also made my second ever homemade soup! Going to feed the family tonight, and share with my deities.

Top Ten Things To Say Right Now At This Very Moment
1) I am super stoked about Girls. The show, not the people.
2) I am sooooo over soup. It seems like a good idea at the time, getting all cozy and warm with an awesome, homemade bowl of fresh soup made from scratch. 4 hours later, your kitchen is a mess and you realize that msg just makes everything so much better.
3) My house is very "San Diego" cold right meow.
4) I think I'm going to color my hair orange, purple AND pink. My original reasoning was that I was tired of not being able to wear certain colors because pink doesn't go with everything...then I envisioned some sort of weird anime warrior person and decided that a bunch of colors is better than one. You only live once right? RIGHT?
5) I angrily realized the other night that I am Part of the System.

6) I HAVEN'T HAD MY COFFEE YET RAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
7) I really really really hate people who post all over their facebooks about how great their life is and how cool their friends are and how stoked on life they are and how jesus must love them because they are just so blessed. And then I remember that they probably just turned 21 and drinking at bars is still really entertaining and all of their friends haven't gotten DUI's yet. News Flash: Not everyone gives a shit about your happiness. Don't go ruining us normal people's lives by exaggerating the specialness of your existence just because "the sun is shining" and you are "laying by the pool with the bestest friends EVER OMG!!!!". I am probably only friends with you on facebook so I can watch you fail from afar and believe me, you won't be so happy when you get fat all of a sudden, go broke from spending all of your money on pot and beer and realize that you are just part of the System too. BUBBLE SUFFICIENTLY BURSTED. oh, and jesus isn't real.
8) I'm still reeling from that last one.
9) Seriously efff Teen Mom 2 for having a frenchie puppy get eaten by a husky and die. That really ruined my evening! When I started watching that show, I thought it was going to be all about extremely young, brilliant woman succeeding at life with their responsible significant others, supportive families, and new born babies. They did a great job living up to these hopes and then they had to go and kill a puppy! For shame Teen Mom, for shame. (*spoiler alert* - Chelsea gets a brand new frenchie puppy to replace the old, dead one and everyone is happy again in the next episode. Also, she passes her GED math practice test.)
10) It is hilarious watching dogs run into screen doors. haha.
