My current Custom Order Quilt project. All the squares are put together, I just need to add the border around the outside edges then I can start working on the backing.
My Customer ask me to make a Quilt using Curtains her Grandmother had made back in the 1930's. Because the flower pattern was so large and I didn't want to lose too much of the flower pattern, we decided to go with large blocks. The outer border will be in the dark brown and I am waiting for her to decide what color the backing will be.
Hope she will be happy with the outcome.
Want your Quilts to Last for Generations? Avoid these common mistakes. Your quilts are made to be used, loved, washed, and snuggled!! And a little extra care can help them stay beautiful for years to come.
• Wash Less than you Think. Quilts don’t need frequent washing. Spot clean small stains when possible and save full washes for when they’re truly needed. (The Tide Spot Clean Pens work great on small spots)
• Quilts do need occasional washing but when you do, Wash with Care. Cold Water, Gentle Cycle, Mild Detergent, Use Color Catchers. These will help preserve color, avoid dye bleeds and reduce wear. (Color Catchers are like Dryer Sheets but you put them in the Washing Cycle. They can be found with other laundry supplies in most stores)
• Skip the Harsh Stuff. Do not use Bleach and strong Detergents. They can fade fabrics and weaken fibers over time. (I recommend using liquid laundry detergent, not powders)
• Watch out for Sunlight. A sunny room may look beautiful, but prolonged direct sunlight can cause fabrics to fade. Display with care! Line Drying a quilt was always my favorite but it’s not recommended for quilts with dark colors as the sun will bleach out dark colors.
• Dry Gently. Use low heat or air dry when possible. High heat can be tough on fabric and batting.
• Store Quilts the Right Way. Keep quilts in a cool, dry place and use breathable storage. Avoid plastic bags or containers that can trap moisture.
• Change the Fold Lines. If your Quilt is stored folded, refold it differently every few months to prevent permanent creases. Better yet, Roll it instead of Folding it! (Tri-Fold lengthwise then roll it like you would roll a sleeping bag!)
• The Most Important Tip. Use your Quilts! Quilts were made to be loved, cuddled, and enjoyed, not hidden away.
• Make repairs on even the smallest of spots as soon as you see them to prevent bigger problems. Inspect your Quilt and make any repairs needed before washing. The washing cycle can cause small damages to become large holes!
Thank you to Homemade Emily Jane for these tips.

From Deb Tucker's Studio 180 Design
We have a special project to share! Quilter Joy G. sent us a message with pictures of her Centennial Showcase quilt. This is a free pattern that we designed to showcase our BlockBuster blocks. Joy did a beautiful job with the piecing and Certified Instructor Jackie Mowday did the amazing quilting. Joy says she is hooked on Studio 180 Design tools and it shows! We absolutely love it.
You can find the BlockBuster series under the Free Downloads section of our website and we've linked the Centennial Showcase pattern below. There are three size options and you can use 6", 8", or 12" blocks.
If you'd like to see your projects featured on our social media, send us a message! We love to share what quilters are doing with our tools and patterns.

🧵✨ We all have those leftover pieces of batting hanging around… but did you know you can join them together and put them to good use? (we call it Frankin-batting) Simply trim the edges of your batting pieces so they’re nice and straight, place the pieces wrong side up on your ironing board, snuggle the edges together with no gap, lay your batting seam tape over the join, and press! It’s that easy. No more wasting those precious batting scraps! 💕 Batting Seam Tape is available on Amazon, Walmart & should be found at any Quilt Shop.
PS: I use the 2 inch wide tape when I do this.
