Like that’s so weird, she’s not an understudy??”

Nightmare Ensemble Girl just popped a can open in the wings during a book scene. Just an absolutely oblivious human being. And the best (worst) part is that she was ON THE WAY DOWNSTAIRS. Like bitch wait literally FOUR (4) SECONDS until the audience can’t hear you, what is WRONG with you.
One of my favorite things in life is the little rituals that develop backstage during a run. I have an actor who checks in with me re: his props before his first entrance every performance and it has evolved from me giving him a thumbs up to a full secret handshake. It’s in the runsheet as “check in with Sam” but it’s a whole routine at this point.
Like don’t get me wrong, I love calling shows. But there is something so fulfilling in ASMing that I don’t get when I’m the PSM.

There’s a character in this show with my name and my name isn’t uncommon but somehow this has never happened to me before? And I truly think that by the end of the run I will have fully ceased to respond when someone says my name. The whole first week of rehearsal was just me doing this:
