This was more a mental exercise than anything - throwing something (rubber shuriken in this case) while rolling. I originally started tossing out socks and other random things mid-roll not because I cared about throwing anything but more to make sure I was not doing a sideways roll cockeyed. But my instructor suggested I actually aim for something. I found the exercise difficult since there was just a split second to spot the target before getting disoriented by the spinning. While focusing on this new objective of hitting a target upside down, the rolls fixed themselves but the throws went all over the place. “Focus on what you want to hit, and intend to hit it, just like you’re reaching out to point at something. You’ve been doing that your whole life. Now, reach out and touch the target in the same way,” he said. Yup, just like that. Right out of Zen in the Art of Archery 🏹. However - he was right - as skeptical as I was, it did make sense, since it’s the same as instinctive (I.e. no fixed sights) bow shooting - intend in your heart to hit the target and you stand a much greater chance of doing so, like how you “aim” when throwing a ball. My target here was the nunchaku on the right. I didn’t hit it all the time but by picturing the star hitting it prior to the throw, I was often pretty close even if the actual throw was mostly blind. Of course, there still is a physical component (since I can’t do this very well on my left), it never ceases to amaze me the power a focused mind can have and how that can make so much possible that we think is impossible. . . . #tumbling #acro #acrobatics #sideroll #sidesomersault #rolls #taihen #taihenjutsu #martialarts #throwingknives #throwingstars #shuriken #shurikenjutsu #parkour #trickinglife #gymnastics #flow #movementislife #karate #kungfu #aikido #tkd #tangsoodo #ninjutsu #bujinkan #hapkido #archery #zen #wayofnoway #dontthinklimits https://www.instagram.com/p/B5Ebxb3BYPs/?igshid=1txz1mv0fkj77
