āThe human impulse to trace oneās own presence finds its first recording in a hand stencil created 64,000 years ago in the Maltraviesco cave in Caceres, Spain. More recent iterations of these human tracings include the metaphysical āAnthropometriesā of Yves Klein and the transformative, politically charged āBody Printsā of David Hammons. Richard Dupontās āBiometryā prints and paintings have aspects that are both political and metaphysical. They extend the existential gesture into the digital age of biometrics, surveillance, and big data. Dupontās biometric works derive not from a direct print of the body, but from a digital scan captured 17 years ago on a military base in Ohio. These works explore the social implications of 21st Century digital technologies and their physiological and psycho- logical effectsā - Richard Dupont Pictured: Richard Dupont Untitled (Biometry) 2021 Monoprint on Coventry rag paper 60h x 44w in / 152.40h x 111.76w cm Richard Dupont, Untitled (Biometry), (detail), 2021 Installation view: Richard Dupont, Self Medication #richarddupont #selfmedication (at Lowell Ryan Projects) https://www.instagram.com/p/Clmbe5DyZgL/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
