Okay but like, more people should write Robert being sick with smth like,,,, pneumonia, bronchitis, or some other non-deadly but serious enough disease, and instead of there being a magical cure, the whole team just has to watch their normie (beloved) dispatcher fight this very normie disease.
Obv Robert would be okay, but its a very real reminder that Robert is still subject to normal ill fates.
I can definitely see the vision. I have written about Flambae just sitting beside Robert because he can't do anything to help. Also, tho, I am slightly removed from sickness since I don't get sick often and when I do, it is real bad
If Robert got pneumonia, my first thought is just Sonar listening to his breathing. More specifically, to the phlegm inside his lungs. It sounds wrong, of course, and he's waiting for it to drain away
One of the symptoms is lower than average body temperature, and this is definitely were Flambae comes in. There's also a lot of sweat, tho, and I'm sure Waterboy has so many tips for that while also having the cold water to wipe away the sweat and keep the fever down. He can also clean up the vomit, tho Flambae likely has Robert's food intake monitored
Invisigal and Golem have the tips for breathing (he learned from her, obv)
That's really all the ideas I have. The rest of them can help out, ofc, but none of them have skillsets that are primed for this. They can really only watch and be there. But no matter how much guilt they feel, they have to know that them being there is important to Robert. Someone hasn't been with him when he was sick in a longass time
Whump Prompt #1716
@paintedpigeon1 asked:
Hi! Love your work. Any thoughts for circus whump prompts perchance?
Ofc ofc:
First of all: old, gruff caretaker taking pity on the new, young whumpee who is trying (and failing) to hide their illness/injury.
Whumpees unable to hold their balance - either from dizziness or an injury, resulting in a fall.
Whumpees just missing the mark/catch resulting in either themselves - or their partner - falling.
Speaking about just missing the mark. What happens when the arrow/knife/projectile doesn't hit the centre of the target (regardless of the ridiculous premise) Are they punished? Do they punish themselves?
As a punishment, they could be tied to the knife-throw board, and the whumper knows just how close they can the knives to be uncomfortable (and where they can just nick the skin.)
Whumpees being forced to perform despite being unwell/injured, resulting in worsening the ailment.
Passing. Out. Mid. Performance. That is all.
Recovering in tents/buildings that aren't built for the environment they're in.
The caretakers having to haul the whumpee into the nearest town to get help.
I can imagine it's going to be makeshift-splints-galore in this setting - especially if the leader doesn't allow them to waste money on medical help.
What happens if equipment fails as they're on it? Does the safety net collapse? Does the trapeze rope snap? Does a balance beam splinter?
Maybe an illness passes between the performers/crew, forcing the whumpee to work just as hard, and resulting in the illness hitting them even harder.
Following that, the overworked and underfed whumpee is always a classic trope to build-upon.
This is specific, but I think it would be fitting to give your whumpee pneumonia in this setting.
^ Or some kind of infection, especially if their living conditions aren't the cleanest/they tend to animals frequently.
I figure I should let y‘all know I’m doing ok. Antibiotics are helping. I got a chest X-ray today and it seems my lungs are clearing up. I’ll probably have another round of antibiotics after this one. Hopefully it will be completely gone this time.
