Thrifts Shops are about supporting and raising awareness for charitable organizations within our areas. Thrift shops help those most vulnerable in their time of need and give back to the needy within our community. Thrift shops are also known as consignment stores, second-hand stores, resale shops, and hospice shops. Volunteers are usually the individuals who work at these shops helping to sort out donated items, pricing the donated items, and providing those that are in need of a convenient service at an affordable price!

Yesterday was #NationalThriftShopDay + much as I love visiting my favorite #secondhand stores, I’d like to share a few sustainable reminders ✨ I’m not at all here to shame anyone, but rather provide a different perspective to the one we’ve been hearing so much of: secondhand is always better, every time. Well... let’s unpack that. Some food for thought: 👚 we cannot purchase our way out of the climate crisis 🩱 our overall goal should be to reduce consumption as much as possible, *not* simply replace our current habits with #secondhand versions 🥿 not all #thrift stores treat their employees properly, and some of them fund anti-LGBTQ+ initiatives 👀 (looking @ u Salvation Army) 🩲 there are next to no consequences for the waste produced from #secondhandstores. Many of them throw perfectly usable products into the garbage simply because it hasn’t sold in the season. (@thetrashwalker is a great resource for this!) 🥼 there’s a serious lack of #secondhand options for plus sized folks. The increase in popularity of #thriftflip videos is leading to people thrifting oversized pieces... taking away those options from people who need them. The consumption habits pushed onto us, as largely seen online through Shein hauls, thrift hauls, etc etc, is inherently unsustainable. Instead, let’s shift our mindsets + shopping habits to reducing, repurposing, repairing, borrowing, + swapping. We’ve been conditioned to think that any time we’re missing an item, we must buy one. Everything nowadays is available to us just a few clicks away, but convenience comes at a cost: to mama earth, to workers, animals, and so much more.
