Small headcanon about the names of James's guns
So, we know that James's ivory revolver is named Due Process, but I personally think his ebony revolver is named Habeas Corpus, meaning "you have the body". (In law, it is a court order for law enforcement to bring forward a prisoner and justify why this prisoner is in custody.) And as much as I hate the brick of a weapon they gave James in Volume 8, I think that weapon would be called Capital Punishment.

My favorite thing about rwby is the clunky but overt subversion of genre and the narrative; they say, "used to this storyline? these characters?" and then switch up characters without conclusive arcs, abandon plots without expected payoffs.
