it’s like, obviously choice feminism is exceptionally flawed and i think it’s vital to be aware of how certain choices are impacted by patriarchal pressures & white western beauty norms, but i think it is also deeply unhelpful in the exact opposite direction to act as though there is only one true enlightened way to go about personal grooming, fashion, etc, which is a deliberate and strictly dichotomised rejection of all of the above (wearing zero makeup, growing out all of your body care, having a bare minimum or even nonexistent skincare routine, etc), and that any level of compliance with societal beauty norms makes you at best a poor innocent victim incapable of choosing these things for ANY reason other than patriarchal mind control, or at worst actively complicit in enforcing these norms. like obviously throw out the idea that you can’t ever criticise makeup or plastic surgery or shaving because one woman somewhere might find her twice yearly lip filler appointments empowering. but i think it’s possible to do that without acting like nobody could EVER want to wear makeup or shave their pubes or have a 7 step skincare routine as like, a morally neutral individual choice that they made as an informed adult. and also even if they are making those choices partially or wholly due to societal influence why would your first impulse be to either patronise or villainise them
