Requested by anon- Community theater: Castiel is rehearsing on an empty stage as Romeo. Dean is a tech and starts saying Julietâs lines.
Castiel slipped through the heavy red curtains, his eyes focused on the paper in his hand. He mumbled as he paced the stage, gesturing vaguely around him as he rehearsed his lines. He ran a hand through his already unruly hair and scowled at the page. He cleared his throat and clasped his hands behind his back.
âLove is a smoke raised with the fume of sighs, being purged a fire sparkling in lovers eyes. Being vexed, a sea nourished with...being vexed, a sea nourished...ugh!â Castiel sighed and pulled the paper from behind his back. His eyebrows pulled together as he looked for his place on the paper.
âLovers tears,â a voice called out.
Castielâs head shot up. He scanned the rows of chairs in the auditorium, looking for the source of the voice. âHello?â he called out. He scowled before returning his focus to the line. âNourished by lovers tears,â he said into the empty room.
Castiel took another glance out into to room, thinking it must have been someone passing by and finishing his line for him. He cleared his throat and leafed through the pages.Â
âIf I profane with my unworthiest hand this holy shine, the gentle fine is this,â Castiel held out his hand, imagining his partner there, âmy lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand to smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.â He bowed gently and pretended to kiss an invisible persons hand.
A sudden light from the balcony flooded the stage, drenching it in a soft blue haze. âGood pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much,â the voice called again. âWhich mannerly devotion shows in this, for saints have hands that pilgrimsâ hands do touch, and palm to palm is holy palmersâ kiss.â
Castiel held his papers to his forehead and squinted into the light. âWhoâs there?â he demanded.
âJuliet,â the voice chuckled. There was a light thud and footsteps followed by âWherefore art thou Romeo?â
Castiel sighed. âThatâs not---that doesnât mean where-- never mind. Iâm trying to rehearse. Can you please---â Castielâs words stuck in his throat as he watched a figure walk slowly down the aisle.
A boy about his height walked towards the stage. Even in the blue light Castiel could make out is bright green eyes. The closer he got, the wider his smile became. Castiel watched in awe as the boy lifted himself up onto the stage. He faced Castiel with his hand stretched out.
âTechnically, my name is Dean,â he said with a wink. âAnd I know it doesnât mean âwhere is Romeoâ, she means why.â
Castiel stood frozen in place, watching the boys eyebrows pull together, then looking down at the still offered hand.
âOh. Uhm. Castiel. Iâm...Castiel,â he stammered, shaking Deanâs hand. âWhy are you---â
Dean pulled his hand away and hooked his thumb over his shoulder. âTech guy,â he gestured towards the panel behind the curtain. He scuffed his toe against the shiny floor boards and smiled. âLooks like weâre gonna be workinâ together for a while.â
Castielâs eyes widened marginally. âYes, I suppose we are. I assume I can thank you for the lighting as well,â he nodded with his head towards the spotlight above the balcony.
Dean nodded and looked up at Castiel through his lashes, his freckles darkened by the blue light. âYou uh, need help running lines? My brother was Romeo last year in the school play,â he waved a hand nonchalantly but with a proud smile. âI probably still know a lotâa her lines.â
Castiel swallowed hard and nodded. âI--yes. Iâd appreciate that, Dean. Thank you.â
Dean smiled wide. âNo problem, Cas.â He took the pages out of Castielâs hand and flipped through them. âAny spots your havinâ a hard time with?â His tongue peeked out over his lips as he scanned the pages. He looked up when Castiel didnât answer, smiling when he realized Cas was staring at his lips. âCas?â
Castielâs eyes shot up to Deans. âSorry, what?â
Dean laughed and ran a hand over his mouth. âLines. Where you wanna start?â
âOh, um, the balcony scene I guess,â he answered shyly. âI think thatâs most interaction they have together.â
Dean nodded as he flipped through the pages. âOk, here,â he pointed. âWant me to start?â
Castiel nodded and cleared his throat, taking a few long steps backwards.
Dean smiled and glanced at the page. âAy, me,â he sighed dramatically, batting his eyelashes.
Castiel bit back a smile. âShe speaks,â Castiel said in a hushed voice. âOh speak again, bright angel, for thou art as glorious to this night.â He pulled his eyebrows together, taking a step forward. âBeing---being over my head as is a winged messenger of heaven unto the white upturned wondering eyes of mortals that fall back to gaze on him when he---â he sighed, looking up to Dean for the rest of the line. He stepped forward again. âDean? Whatâs the line?â
âOh. Uh,â he skimmed his finger over the page, murmuring to himself. âWhen he bestrides the lazy-pacing clouds and sails upon the bosom of the air.â
âI knew that,â Castiel sighed, running a hand through his hair roughly.
âYouâre doinâ great, man. You got a week before this place fills up with people, tonsâa time to practice,â he reassured. âBestrides,â he gestured towards Castiel.
They finished the scene with minimal help from Dean. Castiel knew his lines well but was distracted with Dean standing there, saying Julietâs words with his stupidly beautiful mouth.
âAnything else?â Dean asked, tossing the pages onto a nearby chair.
âMaybe,â Castiel bit back a smile, âum, maybe the scene where Juliet finds Romeo in the tomb.â
Dean pulls his eyebrows together. âYou donât---I mean, Romeo doesnât have any lines there. Heâs dead and Julietâs talkinâ to----oh.â Dean licked his lips, taking a step towards Castiel.
âGo get thee hence,â he began, speaking quietly, âfor I will not away. Whatâs here?â He reached out and held Casâ hand, turning it so his palm was raised. âA cup closed in my true loveâs hand? Poison, I see, hath been his timeless end.â He closed the distance between them, a smile tugging at his mouth. âO churl, drunk all, and left no friendly drop to help me after? I will kiss thy lips,â Dean reached up and ran his thumb across Casâ lower lip, watching as he gently pulled it down. âHaply some poison yet doth hang on them, to make me die with a restorative.â
Castiel held his breath as Dean leaned in, one arm wrapping gently around his waist. Dean smiled before closing his eyes and kissing Castiel gently on the lips. He pulled away slowly, keeping Castiel held close.
âThy lips are warm,â Castiel whispered, opening his eyes.
Dean cocked his head to the side and smirked. âThatâs my line,â he whispered before leaning in and kissing Castiel again.
Thranduil: You are going to stand here and tell me that a tall wizard dressed in grey named Gandalf just left you to wander through the borders of my kingdom alone? I should have you thrown in my dungeon for saying that! How stupid do you think I am? What sort of wizard starts a journey and then just happens to wander away for no reason whatsoever without saying where he is going?Â
What sort of wizard just continuously disappears at the exact moment when trouble is about to begin then magically returns at the last minute to save you? And he has giant eagles that come at his command? Why did he not just fly you over Mirkwood to begin with? Tell me, Thorin Oakenshield, son of ThrĂĄin and I might let you leave! Who is this wandering wizard named Gandalf of which you speak?
Gandalf:Â Thranduil only knows me as Mithrandir. Thatâs why I never go into Mirkwood with anyone who knows me as Gandalf.

"I only came to say goodbye." Casidy repeated over and over, each time with more emotion. She had been running her lines all morning, but had gotten tired of doing so inside her apartment. Heading down her stairs, she repeated the words one more time, before she ran right into another person. âOh shit,â She grumbled.
