OMG. xD Saffy goes to lay down on the couch where she can hear him. And Roy... OMG. The sparks are gonna fly. Maybe if he makes her angry enough, instead of turning to the bottle, she'll opt for something else. Because she's definitely gonna be angry about this one.

While I was shooting that scene Saffy just autonomously walked across the room and lay down on the couch, and I decided it looked cute and to leave it in! Will she overhear something Roy says and use it to some nefarious purpose? Hmmmmm. I hadn’t planned on it but you never know! :P And yeah, Bunty is going to go nuts, I predict.

What I meant was: when ppl ask her why she doesn't have a love interest, she replies that it's bc she is too busy studying. But she is only pretending that is the reason. Violet seems to be a bit naive to think that this would be easy for Sonia. It makes me wonder if she's ever been in a really serious relationship.

Hopefully she acquitted herself a bit better in the last update! :D But I think what it is is that Violet is a strong person with a firm sense of who she is and what she wants. She was bewildered by Sonia’s hesitation and lack of backbone, and initially found it difficult to understand. But now she understands Sonia’s reasons she has a bottomless well of empathy.   I really don’t think Sonia could have chosen a better person to go on this journey with.

Yeah, I feel like... there’s so much dislike for Sonia for wanting them both, but you have to take her background into account. Roy and Sonia make better friends than marriage partners, but her whole life is built around their marriage. These two people, neither were able to marry the person they really loved, because other people forced them away from it. So they married someone they could love, if not the person they’d have chosen. Sonia has a LOT more to lose here than Roy does.

Yes, all excellent and salient points. Sonia is also going to be feeling rejected and a failure too, despite her relationship with Violet. Her marriage may have been a sham but it was still the foundation she built her life on. She will be lost for quite a while I think until she finds herself.

There’s no stigma attached to Roy’s choice of partner, for one thing. For another, while he loves his kids, Sonia is the one who spends more time with them from what I’ve seen. And a separation of parents is always hardest on the children. Sonia also doesn’t seem to have a ‘job’ or ‘identity’ of her own outside of this marriage. Roy has his work. He’s well known and famous. She’s... his wife, and the daughter of her parents. This kind of change alters her whole identity.

If they can do this amicably, as Roy seems to think is possible, the kids will definitely be better of than with he and Sonia arguing all the time, and both of them sneaking around and not being able to openly discuss their feelings. And a house heavy with secrets and unresolved tension is a horrible and unhealthy environment for kids to grow up in too, even if there’s no actual fighting! And I love your summation of Sonia’s life and identity...so spot-on, so true. She is Roy’s wife and the mother of his children. All she has outside that is her Book Club and her sexual flings. Roy has it so easy compared to Sonia.

I'm still not sure about this whole thing. Of course, we all build our family life (marriage or not) around a relationship that has started as a romantic one, but most of the time it's the true friendship and mutual respect that holds us together and saves us in hard moments. Both Roy and Sonia are taking a great risk their new romances not to transform into something more. And the stakes are high in their case - the kiddos, Roy's career (I'm sure his boss would be delighted). Just my pragmatic view on the matter.

Yep, Roy’s boss is going to be really shitty...that will be a fun scene to write! :=) Roy is by nature a risk-taker, and risks and challenges don’t faze him.  You are so right Mirena that the stakes are high! And as @ktarsims  pointed out above, Sonia has a lot more to lose than Roy. But she also has so much more to gain as well in the long term- happiness and personal growth and discovering who she really is.

What if Sonia was bisexual? 

What if the older lady actually gets to keep the younger man? (This one is particularly amusing to me because the reader who liked to badger me about it seemed to stopped liking or commenting on my story as soon as Jonita started being a thing again?? lolol Anyway she left a lasting legacy, so I’m grateful, and we do need more stories where the older woman finds happiness with the younger man, and isn’t burnt at the stake for it. )

I guess the question now is whether Saoirse is only providing a show for the doctor to… tend himself to or if she’s the one doing the handling. Either way doesn’t look great for her to be doing as a married woman to begin with but maybe she can convince Roy it’s just “a business transaction” like his little Crystal loophole.

I’m sure a psychologist would have a field day, but the way I see it is that catering to the doctor’s whims gives her an outlet for the suffocating boredom of living in Sunset Valley, and also feeds her rebellious streak. She does also genuinely like the doctor. I think his feelings for her might go deeper than that, though.

Of course you nailed it Mirena! I’m pretty sure most people would regard Saoirse as participating in a sexual act because she is providing a sexual service to the doctor, and her husband would be absolutely mortified, and she knows this too, so it is really quite underhanded (hurr hurr) and duplicitous of her. She worded her answer to Roy very carefully though when she explained what exactly went on…she said that the doctor never took his clothes off.  But she never said that she didn’t. ;=)

Roy is a lot of unsavoury things, true, but in this instance I don’t see his behaviour as being creepy. I see it as more of him always wanting to know everything. It kills him if he doesn’t have the dirt of everything, even things that don’t concern him directly. (As he demonstrated at the disastrous BBQ he invited Georgina and Joël to, just so if he could find out for sure if they’d slept together.)

I sorta wonder if he's overreacting here because he's suspicious of Saoirse and Dr. Evans (if there is actually something to be suspicious of) and/or feeling neglected by her and/or otherwise unsatisfied with their relationship and is lashing out as a result. Not that it would necessarily excuse his cold manners in my mind, but I would feel a lot less critical of him if he's in fact a lonely, broken hearted husband and not just a control freak.

John’s known for a while that things aren’t great in their marriage, but has managed to push his concerns to the back of his mind. He prides himself on being rational, and he’s been telling himself that he shouldn’t give in to his suspicions because he has no proof. But he won’t be able to deny the truth for much longer. It’s also possible that he’s both...a broken-hearted control freak!

Starting to like Raj less and less. He shouldn't need to threaten the competition to keep a woman's attention.

Raj will tell you that his reasons are strictly business- he is only doing this because he needs Mia to be focused and not all lovelorn and woolly-headed when she goes to Paris. That’s his excuse, and he’s sticking to it.

I personally think Raj's reason is neither cruelty nor affection and thus jealousy towards Mia. He just want his people to stop f*ing around and get his money out of France. Nothing personal, just business. But I have a very specific image of him in my imagination that could be very wrong. Looking forward to find out! 😊
