how did you make/treat/colour it? (thinking about making my own rope at some point so... very curious)
So, I got raw hemp rope in the different diameters I wanted (6mm and 8mm) to start with. I cut it down into the lengths, then had to boil it (which smelled so nice honestly), then dye it with rit dye and break it. The breaking process was so fun -- I looped it around my treadmill desk where there was a hard edge, then ran it back and forth for hours against that surface to get the fibers to the texture I wanted.
Once that was done (or maybe just before? It's been a bit) I whipped the ends using this beautiful black twine, so it wouldn't ever fray. Then finally oiled it and ... Rope!
It's been almost a decade and it's still the softest rope I've ever felt, and because of the texture it holds knots SUPER well.
Firstly, I'm offended that I don't know what that berry is despite being like, a country away from Italy, I've never seen that in my life, secondly, you can make rope... from a tree bark??? You can make a super cool looking all natural rope with just a tree bark???? I'm so freaking glad I follow her, I've never heard a word of this in my life and thank heavens I know this now, I will make, so much rope, omg. I will make a rope-based furniture and a rope net for swinging and sleeping in. There is no limit to how much can be done with rope. Blessed knowledge.

I've been making ropes and tassels for my Guild Wars 2 cosplay. I couldn't find any rope I liked so I decided to buy macrame cord and make my own. It was more time-consuming than using pre-made materials but definitely worth it. The front is done, but I still need to finish the back. Not shown but I'm also working on the matching pants and crotch/butt flaps.
The Belfast Ropeworks was the biggest ropeworks in the world. The first rope manufacturer in Belfast was set up in 1758 by John McCraken. It was in 1876 tha Samuel Smiles established the Belfast Ropework Co. By 1913 it was employing 3,600 people and had the capacity to produce 350 tons of rope per week. By 1957 it was still the biggest ropeworks in the world. The company finally closed its door in 1978. The factory was demolished to make way for the Connswater shopping centre.
