Seeing my artwork in the cover of a book about #differenceinpeaceandconflict seems very timely. As #AungSanSuuKyi faces interrogation over the #RohingyaGenocide the UK is facing an election; the outcome of which will determine the future peace and stability of Britain or its fragmentation and demise. This artwork is a section of my scroll created with mentally ill patients in Brussels. Rob was trapped in the mental health system a life time on meds, seeing psychiatrists and state support. He was bright and funny and sensitive it seemed a tragic waste. Rob started the initial drawing and I worked on it in my studio later. He told me he had done LSD when he was younger. As I worked on his section I felt like was sucked into a parallel universe it was very powerful. I believe Rob could have had a very different life with another kind of support. What kind of world do we want to live in? One where we label people crazy and drug them until they can barely function; one where genocide can occur with impunity; one where elections are won on a web of mendacity.
