I tried searching your blog but I didn't come up with anything, do you have any ideas for enrichment for adult corn snakes? I have to keep on him on paper towel instead of something he can dig in (vets orders, because he has a whistle when he breathes) maybe ripped up paper to dig in? Do they like to explore like, floral smells (herbs and such) or would that be disinteresting to them? He's for warm hides and cool hides and a big tube and branches and some leafy cover to hide in, I just don't want the poor guy to be bored.
Aww, poor buddy. It's very kind of you to want him to still have activities while he's convalescing. Let's focus on some enrichment ideas that might be appropriate for a respiratory infection patient to keep their mind busy without exacerbating their condition.
Snakes might find passing interest in herbal smells, but make sure you're using mildly-scented plants. Sweet mint, basil, cilantro, dried herbal tea like chamomile and calendula, untreated rose petals, or even just some unfertilized clipped grass from the yard might be fun to sniff.
You can stop by your local pet store and ask for a pinch or two of soiled mouse bedding, wrap it in a paper towel, and then cram that paper towel into a wiffle ball (the plastic ball with the holes in it?) so that your snake can sniff and push the ball around but can't have physical contact with or try to eat the contents.
Shredded paper in a container to dig through is a fun idea, just make sure it's unprinted paper as some ink dust can be irritating to the respiratory system. You can try other textures, too, including old tee shirts, faux fur, smooth rocks, washed wine corks, flattened cardboard tubes, crumpled wax paper, etc.
Hang a woven bird nest (often sold for finches) from the top of his enclosure for him to climb into. Sometimes a hide above ground level makes for a nice nap spot. You can also put sniffy-enrichment in the nest to make it more enticing.
Get some peg-board and wooden pegs and make a climbing wall.
These are just some ideas off the top of my head and I'm sure there are a million others you can think of based on these. I hope that your little guy is recovering well and that he gets a clean bill of health from your vet very soon.
