just drew this. some rare anxceit fluff xD inspired by fall out boys song the take over the breaks over, specifically the lines:
"we do it in the dark, with smiles on our faces we're dropped and well concealed, in secret places"
I am incensed.
I was just checking information for a UK government welfare benefit, regarding housing, and I discovered they have this rule:
[Image ID: screenshot that reads: "If you're under 35 and you live in private housing
If you do not live with a partner, the most you can usually get is the rent for a single room in a shared house in your area, even if you do not live in shared housing. This is called the Local Housing Allowance shared accommodation rate (SAR)."
End ID]
What this means, is that, if you're single and under 35, and you live in a 1 bedroom property, you automatically get less than someone in a couple living in a 1 bedroom property. Which essentially means that if you're single and relying on this benefit that you will struggle more to find accommodation if you want to live on your own than someone in a couple on the same benefits would - or be forced to live in a house share (which really isn't suitable for certain groups - I can tell you that from experience). For literally zero reason other than the fact that you're single.
This, obviously, is extremely arophobic. Aside from that, I'm pretty sure this would also indirectly affect queer folks who haven't been able to date/get in relationships due to queerphobia, and probably the same/similar for other marginalised groups too. Plus, people should just be allowed to live on their own anyway, even if they're on benefits. The fact that single people on benefits will struggle more to find a place to live on their own in comparison to both single working people and couples on benefits, is discriminatory to disabled aros especially.
Just generally, there is absolutely no reason for this to be a rule, and it obviously should be changed somehow.
Personally, I'm not able to do anything about this. My one idea is that there is an official government site where people can host petitions which will get discussed by parliament if they get enough signatures (not linking so this post doesnt get nerfed). But I do not have the spoons or knowhow to make such a petition or to make it successful.
Instead I'm making this post, to talk about it and bring some awareness to it. To be fair I don't actually know if anything is being done about this already or not. But either way something does need to be done.
Made a template, fill out with your characters etc.
this image wouldnt leave my head so now you have to deal with it

Hello again sonic is aro bc he's never shown (in the main games) any interest in romance and has actively shown disinterest ("marriage? No way!")
sonic is ace bc he makes a great stereotype-breaking ace character. the main ace stereotype i see is shy introverted girl but sonic is a sportsy outgoing male character
Sonic is trans bc the fandom decided that chestfur is an amab thing for mobian hedgehogs, and sonic doesn't have any plus he doesn't have armfur which amy also does not
Additionally, sonic is an aroace trans boy bc why the fuck not
Nonsex/nonro normative: when you experience nonsexuality or nonromanticism as 100%, entirely normal, and you experience the idea of sex or romance to be entirely abnormal, unexpected, unrelateable to or odd.
If you're nonsex/nonro normative, you experience most or all of the following:
surprised that sex/romance exists
surprised that anyone actually engages in sex/romance
surprised that anyone actually takes sex/romance seriously
weirded out when others around you started caring about sex/romance, or outright didnt even notice because you didnt believe they were serious
surprised anyone would expect you to be interested in sex/romance
surprised anyone expected you to find sex/romance normal
expected your peers to find sex/romance as weird as you do
didnt expect there to be societal pressure to engage in sex/romance
instinctually not experience there being anything more normal about being allo than being aspec
not feel like/relate to why you're "supposed" to engage in sex/romance
not feel like there's anything broken about being aspec
not relate to how anyone could find being aspec abnormal
generally didnt expect to live in this world where sex/romance is a norm
Note 1: nonsex/nonro normativity is not a political viewpoint or belief of that allos should be treated worse, its simply an experience.
Note 2: i chose "nonsex" and "nonro" instead of "ace" and "aro" because i know not all aces and aros experience this, and they're not less ace or aro for that.
i just want *slams fists* to wake up next to a best friend
