I’d also like to update the definition to include any sexual traits, whether their feelings such as libido, or sexual organs, or other things; and also to update it so that the term can refer to any amount of this dysphoria, not just “extreme discomfort”.

As the creator of the dysphoria model of sex repulsion (a thing you may or may not have been aware of, I learned a hard lesson on my fandom blog last year about not assuming people are already aware of a thing I made) I find this a very useful addition to the theory, which originally only encompassed repulsion as a type of social sexual dysphoria that arises in response to an externally imposed expectation of sexuality that one does not possess. The idea of it arising in response to internal feelings or traits a person does not want is incredibly compatible with the existing work I've done on the dysphoria model and I'm honestly a bit disappointed in myself for not filling that gap earlier knowing it's definitely a thing I also experience.

We’ve seen some discussion here and there about how people who self insert might not be comfortable calling fictional friends or family F/Os, as it stands for fictional other and is more associated romance. I was surprised no one has purposed any alternate terms yet, so I’ll give it a shot. 

Reasons for these terms are the following: 

1. It’s less clunky than writing platonic F/O, parental F/O, etc. The main use of F/O also feels like it’s prioritizing romantic relationships with non-romantic relationships as an afterthought. 

2. In some cases calling a character an F/O can be unclear or confusing about the relationship. 

3. Some may be uncomfortable calling characters they view as family a word that comes from significant other or is based on shipping. 

F/F or Fictional Friend, a character who one views as having a friend relation towards them in self insert or other context. F/Fr or FFr can also be used to prevent confusion between FF as in Fanfic and F/F. 

Exampe: Ribbot from Animal Crossing is my F/F, and I like to draw my self insert as being friends with him. 

F/QPP or fictional Queer Platonic Partner, a character who one views as being a queerplatonic partner in self insert or other context.

Example: Viktor from Slime Rancher is my F/QPP. 

F/R or Fictional Relation, a character who one views as having a family relation towards them in self insert or other context.

Terms can also come from this in F/CR being fictional child relation, F/PR being fictional parent relation, F/SR being fictional sibling relation, etc. 

Xush (pronounced “zush”): umbrella term for “crushes”; word for a non-specific crush. alternative to calling them all “crushes”, since that can get confusing since crush is already used for a specific type of crush (romantic). Spelt with an x to indicate the non-specificity of it.

Example uses:

Ex. 1: “I have a xush on [character]!” “Oh, what kind?” “I don’t know exactly, but it sure is a xush!”

Consider this I guess a coining post? Although it’s pretty much just combining words haha.

From this, we came up with fictoplatonic. 

Fictoplatonic is an umbrella term which refers to experiencing strong platonic attraction towards fictional characters or experiencing squishes towards fictional characters. 

We also wound up making a flag for it, which is based largely on the fictosexual and fictoromantic flags, but with yellow as it feels like a good color for platonic love. 

The second term that we came up with from looking at a lack of terminology was fictofamilial. 

This one is much more broad and not one we’d consider to be an orientation or related as much to being aromantic like we had in mind with fictoplatonic, but rather an experience.

Left is heteracespec, center is heterarospec, right is heteraspec

Note that I have this flag as an alternative to the straight flag specifically for straight aspec people, just like I have the transhet flag for straight trans people

- Quip (my personal favourite) -> Gender neutral, easy to say and rolls of the tongue, clever (you know like a quippy comment?), kind of sounds like if you tried to say QPP as if it were a word and not an acronym really fast and forgot that there was a second p, maybe because you want them with you so you should,,, e-quip them with you, came up with it myself so i’m proud of me

- Queepeepee -> cute apparently, created from forgetting how the letter Q is pronounced, literally just a weird pronunciation of the acronym QPP, 

- Zucchini -> I saw someone on a post call their quip their zucchini and while I despise the vegetable, the concept of the name might be cute 

- Babe -> I started calling my quip this ironically,,, I now cannot stop

- Y o u -> Well, they know you’re talking to them

- The Chosen One –> Installs mystery for anyone in the vicinity, makes your quip seem like they have some fated destiny, you now look like a wise NPC, cute name

- Love -> once again, irony. And the fact that we talk like old British gay men.

- sweetie -> she only calls me this when I’ve done or said something stupid. I am very familiar with the name.
