Surah Al Haqqah - Ghassan Al Shorbaji
If you’re having trouble memorizing Quran, I have some tips that have helped me greatly Alhamdulillah.
1. Duaa. Lots and lots of duaa
2. Stop consuming music entirely. This is part of Islam that should be incorporated into all of our lives but I understand it may be difficult for some and that many of us do listen to music. Stopping the intake of music for the sake of memorizing a Surat for the sake of Allah is a great place to start Inshaallah.
3. Learn to read and write Arabic.
4. Study and write down the Arabic, transliteration, and the translation in whatever your native language is. Having a well rounded understanding of what you’re saying will benefit you.
5. Find a recitation of the Surat that you love most. All qari have their own unique style so pick the one that touches your heart most.
6. If you cannot find that specific recitation in video form that replays over and over (for example, on YouTube “Surat ikhlas x100), YouTube has a nice feature which allows you to set the video to replay automatically.
7. Listen to the Surat. Sometimes recite along with the qari but sometimes just listen as a way to ensure you yourself are reciting it perfectly.
8. While listening to this Surat over and over, read the Arabic and transliteration along with the qari.
9. Don’t compare your progress to anyone but yourself.
10. Revise revise revise! If you’re not native to fusha Arabic/reciting, you can easily get caught up not pronouncing letters or mispronouncing them. Even after the Surat has been memorized, regularly check over your notes and test yourself.
May Allah make is easy on all us mu’min to understand and memorize and recite beautifully His words He sent to us. Allahumma ameen. Please add any other tips you have to the comment section of this post inshaallah.
