Indulging in taboo topics within fiction is not harmful because it does not exploit any living thing, no living thing is being harmed, and—if you are in a proper headspace—you are aware that these dynamics are harmful in real life and would never encourage them.

Many survivors of Sexual Assault use dark dynamics/romance to explore their traumatic experiences with full control; they can start the fantasy when they want, control how those involved are acting/reacting, and stop it whenever they feel like all while having no effect on the real world.

Some may feel attraction towards their traumatic experiences and need a healthy outlet that won’t put them in harm’s way… reasons for enjoying dark fiction vary widely. One can enjoy taboo fiction without being traumatized.

As long as you are not internalizing the dynamics, involving real children, or indulging in it in improper spaces, dark fiction is not inherently harmful (And as long as you aren’t over consuming it, but anything over-consumed is harmful, so that can go without saying.. but I’ll still say it here)
