Are you okay? The postpartum period and the postpartum mother are often neglected. This is a time where hormones recalibrate, bodies change unexpectedly, and sleep takes on a new meaning. If you’re visiting someone who recently gave birth, you are there to support her, not just to see the baby. Right? Friends, when you visit someone with a newborn, make sure you’re coming over to check in on the new parents and help them out too. Change a diaper so she can shower. Wash the dishes. Do a load of laundry. Cook a meal. Motherhood is beautiful 😂 But seriously, this is why we need maternity leave—the postpartum period is the hardest adjustment of the entire pregnancy! 🎨: @beckybarnicomics #midwife #midwifery #midwifical #midwives #midwifelife #midwivesrock #feministmidwife #midwiferycare #postpartumbody #postpartummom #postpartummoms #postpartumhealth #postpartumhealing #postpartumhormones #postpartumdepression #postpartumdepressionawareness #takebackpostpartum #postpartumanxiety #postpartumlife #postpartumcare #postpartumproblems #postpartumjourney #maternalhealth https://www.instagram.com/p/BwSfk-lgPb6/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=p6prnv2w90fd
Expectant parents spend so much time researching and prepping for childbirth but often forget the postpartum period. This is when new parents are the most raw and are desperately trying to get the hang of this new tiny human. They forget that they too need lots of TLC in this time. If you have visitors, be selfish. Ask for chores in exchange for baby snuggles: a load of laundry, cook dinner, wash the dishes, change a diaper, take out the trash, or watch baby so you can sleep or shower. You deserve just as much attention as your newborn. 🎨: #midwife #midwifery #midwifical #midwives #midwifelife #midwivesrock #feministmidwife #midwiferycare #postpartumbody #postpartummom #postpartummoms #postpartumhealth #postpartumhealing #postpartumhormones #postpartumdepression #postpartumdepressionawareness #takebackpostpartum #6weekspostpartum #postpartumanxiety #postpartumlife #3weekspostpartum #postpartumcare #postpartumproblems #postpartumjourney #maternalhealth #mentalhealthmatters https://www.instagram.com/p/BqyNcdynZT0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=27rnrcxmx8p5

Postpartum Care: Understanding Your Body’s Changes.
Explore the complexities of the postpartum period and understand the emotional and physical changes experienced by new mothers.
Introduction
Bringing new life into the world is beautiful, but the postpartum period can feel overwhelming. Your body has gone through tremendous changes, and recovery takes time. Postpartum care isn’t just about healing physically — it’s about understanding the emotional, mental, and spiritual shifts that come with motherhood.
Physical Changes After Birth
1. Vaginal & Uterine Healing 🌸
Bleeding (lochia) can last weeks.
Cramping as the uterus shrinks is normal.
2. Hormonal Shifts ⚖️
Sudden drops in estrogen and progesterone can trigger mood swings or “baby blues.”
3. Breast & Lactation Changes 🤱
Breast engorgement, tenderness, or leaking.
Adjusting to nursing or pumping schedules.
4. Pelvic Floor Recovery 🧘
Weakness, discomfort, or incontinence may appear. Gentle Kegel exercises can help over time.
5. Energy & Sleep 🌙
Newborn care disrupts sleep, leaving exhaustion at its peak.
Emotional & Mental Shifts
1. Baby Blues vs. Postpartum Depression 💔
Baby blues (tearfulness, mood swings) usually pass within 2 weeks.
Persistent sadness, anxiety, or hopelessness may signal postpartum depression — and deserves immediate care.
2. Identity Changes 🌱
Adjusting to motherhood often brings questions of self-identity, priorities, and purpose.
3. Relationship Adjustments 💕
Partners may also feel stress, and communication becomes vital.
Postpartum Care Strategies
Rest When Possible 🛌: Short naps restore energy.
Nutrition 🍲: Balanced meals aid healing and breastfeeding.
Hydration 💧: Water supports recovery and milk production.
Gentle Movement 🚶: Walking, stretching, or postpartum yoga when cleared by your doctor.
Pelvic Floor Therapy 🧘♀️: Professional support can aid recovery.
Mental Health Support 🧠: Therapy, support groups, or talking openly with loved ones.
Self-Compassion ❤️: Remind yourself that healing takes time — your body is not “bouncing back,” it’s rebuilding.
My Reflection
After giving birth, I was shocked by how little I knew about postpartum changes. I expected joy, but I wasn’t ready for the physical pain, exhaustion, and emotional rollercoaster. Over time, I learned that healing meant giving myself patience, care, and grace.
Conclusion
Postpartum care is not just medical — it’s emotional and human. Understanding your body’s changes is the first step to recovery. New mothers need rest, compassion, and support as they navigate this delicate and powerful stage of life.

Did you know postpartum bleeding is to be expected whether you've had a vaginal or cesarean birth? This vaginal discharge is known as lochia - it's a normal part of birth that results from the uterus replacing its lining and getting rid of the extra blood and tissues that helped grow baby during pregnancy. The bleeding feels like a month-long period (lasting about 6 weeks) that tapers off and lightens over time. However, during those first few days, the lochia is heaviest and a bright red color (rubra). This is when a MATERNITY PAD is absolutely needed most. Standard maxi pads are NOT designed for this heavy bleeding phase. Maternity pads are thick absorbent pads specifically made for heavy flow. Incognito maternity pads are a postpartum recovery must-have designed with these needs in mind -Free from dyes and harsh ingredients -Paraben and Phthalate free -Extra heavy absorbency to lock in more wetness than a standard pad -Features Odor Guard to neutralize odors -100% breathable -With 3-in-1 protection to handle daily discharge, menstrual leakage, and even bladder leakage Make sure you include these maternity pads in your postpartum prep! I'm sharing more about them in my stories tonight - let me know if you have any questions!! NOTE: A few RED FLAGS that the bleeding is abnormal is if the bleeding doesn't slow down or stop, you are soaking through a thick hospital-grade pad in an hour or less, smell a foul odor, or experience nausea. Contact your provide ASAP if you experience these symptoms and more. #postpartumrecovery #postpartumbody #postpartumbleeding #postpartumsupport #postpartummom #postpartumjourney #firsttimemom #afterbirthcare #postpartummusthaves #postpartumessentials #newmom #newmoms #newmomlife #fourthtrimester #thirdtrimester #childbirth #prevailpads #postpartumdoula #4mumy #4mumymother https://www.instagram.com/p/CSwz3OEqa1R/?utm_medium=tumblr
