Things I'm saying to my elected federal officials, this week (01/30/17—02/03/17)
These are some things I'll be saying to my elected federal officials, today. Feel free to say them to yours, as well:
I would like to encourage Senator ____________ to join with her/his colleagues, Senators Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, in voting AGAINST Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education. Ms DeVos' confirmation would do real harm to both our state and our nation, because someone who hates public education as much as she seems to should not be put in charge OF it.
I would also ask that the Senator vote against Jeff Sessions as Attorney General. Due to his history of racist, sexist, and otherwise bigoted views, he should not be placed in charge of our nation's law enforcement priorities. We live at a time when the unequal application of the rule of law burns bright in the minds of the population, and Sessions' appointment as AG would exacerbate rather than soothe that tension.

I would like to encourage Congresswoman/Congressman ____________ to vote in favour of the bill put forth by Representative Stephanie Murphy of Florida's 7th District, removing Stephen Bannon from the National Security Council. Bannon has both personally expressed and supported the dissemination of racist, white supremacist views, and he should not be allowed to determine what type of security issues are pertinent to the President. Already we have seen plans for the "Countering Violent Extremism" program to be changed to "Countering ISLAMIC Extremism" or "Countering RADICAL ISLAMIC Extremism." With this change, they will no longer target groups such as white supremacists, even though said groups are responsible for the VAST MAJORITY of bombings and shootings in the United States. We must fight to keep white supremacy in all its forms from continuing to consolidate power, in our nation and around the world.
