Lucy had stood with her back to the open window of the tower. To her mind, her options were to plummet to the rocks below or go back home to her father, and the sheltered, suffocating life that she had left behind. Jose was gloating about her having no way out, but Lucy wasnât listening.
Sheâd heard something strange in the whistling of the wind. An echo of a familiar enraged roar. Without a second thought, she let herself fall backward, into the air. I heard him in the distance. I KNOW heâs here. âNATSU!!â She screamed as she fell, praying to the spirits that he was closer than the echo sounded.
And of course, he had been. Somehow, even though Lucy had only been with the guild for a couple of months, she knew instinctively that Natsu would always be there.
Looking up at the movement at the top of the tower, Natsuâs eyes widened, and his stomach lurched at the sight of Lucy falling from the tower. She was screaming his name into the wind, eyes clenched shut. With a roar of her name in response, he launched himself into the air toward her. Wrapping his arms around her, they smashed through a wall together, landing tangled up in a pile.
Natsu groaned âMade it just in timeâŚâ and flushed as he realized the softness against his mouth was the underside of her breast. Lucy didnât seem to notice; she was more focused on the fact that he had been there for her. She knew I would come? I didnât even know I wasâŚ.
And suddenly, at that moment, he knew that he would. No matter what, Natsu knew it was an inescapable truth that he would always come to save Lucy, from anyone and anything.
