Remember, your partner is just one piece of your pie. How much are you going to allocate to them? Yourself? Your friends? Your family? Your hobbies?
Codependency = sense of self from relationships/tendency to merge with partner.
Losing yourself in a relationship happens slowly.
- check in and pause
- give less, receive more
- don't change plans to see your partner
- focus attention away from them and onto you
Over-giving creates false idea that you're in control and indispensable.
- you don't need to prove your worth by being useful

PRACTICE
- minimize exposure to low safety relationships and maximize exposure to high safety relationships to build neural pathways
- take the time to build rapport with potential partners
