Okโฆ so here me out. Iโm obsessed with the book One Last Stop by #caseymcquiston. If itโs made into a movie, THIS is how I picture Jane Su!! Aaggghhh! Have her people call Casey!
a story that smell of sweet snacks, old movies, Meg Ryan in Sleepless in Seattle, the Breakfast Club and at the same time all the flavors of today, now, here. so deeply here.
I swear to God if they pull a "lesbian lover turns out to be my grandma" I will actually loose it.

This took me almost a year to read.. ๐ฎโ๐จ BookTok influenced me and ever since this book I try not to get influenced by that. While I love a good romance story and think that we need a lot more queer books, this story just did not progress and I was rooting for the characters to not end up together ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ
The chapters were too long with jumps in between where a new chapter would have made sense and there were too many details and side stories that did little to advance the main plot point.

๐ First book of the year๐ ๐โ๐ฅ๐ป๐๐ธ๐ธ๐ฝ There is something quietly wistful about the way Casey McQuiston introduces August Landry and her world. August Landry who grew up poor in the south and precociously self-reliant under the shadow of a family tragedy; moved from city to city and ended up in New York because she "wanted a better puzzle"; who came out as bisexual to her mother but is afraid to let herself love, doesn't trust people, "but she trusts fried chicken." And then there is Subway Girl who saves August's day just when she needed something to go right in her life. Jane Su, who "is spun sugar. A switchblade girl with a cotton-candy heart." A girl who fights and cares. Who becomes both a place and a person, and more importantly, had "the nerve, the audacity, to become the one thing August canโt resist: a mystery." A girl out of time, quite literally. August and Jane are opposites in almost every way whose rough jagged edges somehow fit into each other. Jane pries open the mystery that is August's existence as much August attempts to crack the very real puzzle of Jane, an impossible girl stuck in the New York subway Q train since the 1970s. Alongside Jane, the cast of supporting characters in the form of August's flatmates and neighbours become August's queer found family who make the city home for her. August's keen and sensitive observer's eye fleshes out in high definition what makes these people feel real and loveable, interesting and relatable. With their gentle (and sometimes not so gentle) nurture and encouragement, they coax August out of the protective shell of indifference she built around herself to give herself permission to feel love, joy, pain and vulnerability. Their race against time to free Jane from her time-space prison invokes an aura of impending doom that adds to the texture of the romance. A romance that captures a love that sweeps you off your feet, that reaches for each other in the desire to know and be known, that creates an easy intimacy and "Somewhere for hope to go? It's good. Even when it's bad, it's good." #bookreview #onelaststop #caseymcquiston #bookstagram #lgbtq๐ #lgbtqreads #queerromance https://www.instagram.com/p/CYsJ5RcvPaN/?utm_medium=tumblr
