RANT! LIFE IS FREAKING AWESOME!
Fair warning: I know I don't usually curse that much, or at least I try not to. But there is going to be a lot of strong language in this. You've been warned.
You wanna know how I stay so positive? Because life is fucking awesome. Yeah there will always be a new shitstorm uprooting the people and there will always be bullshit politicians trying to screw people and there will always be hateful, ignorant people trying to fill your beautiful head with their lies and their venom. But the hateful people, the snakes and the wolves, are always louder than the rest of the world. We hear so much more about the terrible bullshit swarming the planet that sometimes we really need to look — and look hard — for the good in the world
So I guess that's my answer. I look for it. And I am never disappointed.
Yeah the world is fucked right now. In America hateful scared ignorant old people are trying to tell you how to live your life and what you may or may not do with your body or who you may or may not marry or what your insurance may or may not pay for or what you may or may not vote for based on what color you may or may not be.
In Greece there are active concentration camps rounding people up, people like you and me. Brazil, Venezuela, Russia: Riots in the fucking streets. Church of England banning gay rights. God sometimes it seems like the fucking world is just going insane. You could suffocate on all the hatred. (Except for in Canada. You're a bro, Canada.)
But in every single one of those situations, there are fucking people standing up and they are fighting against the injustices. Every day people get stronger, and every day there are the people standing above the others.
People handing out water to wounded civilians hurt by the police
A little girl handing a man with a riot shield a heart balloon
Three black doctors trying to save the life of a KKK member
People in Boston offering up their power sockets, internet, homes, and food to help anyone in need
The glorious, pure, unadulterated joy in the tears of the people now legally allowed to marry in California
The justices who stood up for marriage equality
A lone senator in pink sneakers speaking with the voice of millions
One man and his charity building a school/orphanage from the fucking GROUND UP in Haiti
All over there are priests supporting marriage equality
Muslims in the middle of a war zone protesting for the defense of women's rights
Children holding out their hands to wounded veterans
Teenagers defending an old woman getting robbed
SOMEONE FUCKING SAYING 'THANK YOU' WHEN I HOLD THE DOOR OPEN FOR THEM.
We live in a world where the bad is crowed so loud and the good is kept so quiet because the sensationalist media (AKA FOX FUCKING NEWS i know they all do it but FUCK Fox do you even TRY!?) loves the drama and knows people will tune in for it. That is why the same two minutes of disaster footage will be played ON LOOP for 48 hours afterward to make you AFRAID and to make you SAD and to make you give up your voice and fucking take what they give you because the world is fucked.
BUT IT ISN'T WORTH IT. NO ONE ELSE IN THE WORLD WILL HAVE YOUR VOICE, AND YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WITH THE POWER TO MAKE IT HEARD. YOU ARE POWERFUL AND THAT SCARES THEM!
This is a great time to be alive. If you want to know something, you fucking get on the internet and you learn it. Visionaries like the vlogbrothers are working around the CLOCK to create FREE educational resources for people who are otherwise unable to obtain them. Their new show SEXPLANATIONS is giving FREE. ACCURATE. SAFE information to the WORLD so that teenagers can stop being misinformed and START having sex the safe way. Then there's fucking LACI GREEN giving real, safe, helpful advise on sex, love, abuse, and growing up.
People are making music and putting it on the internet without needing agents or money because youtube doesn't need you to pay to get your creations out there.
Fanfiction is getting bigger and better than ever and even while stupid people try to capitalize off it it will remain free, and creative, and full of love for the same things.
TUMBLR FANDOMS are banding together, and the lines between us are slowly blurring and eventually all the hateful pricks who bully others into deleting their blogs are going to be alone and afraid and the positive thinkers and those who give their hearts freely will be leading the way for others.
So yeah, the world is scary. And I'm not saying that it doesn't get to me, and I'm not saying you shouldn't let it get to you. We are all in this world together, and it is important that you FEEL when these things are happening, and you are GRATEFUL that they are not happening to you and that you HELP in any way you can when they are happening to others. We are all connected, and there will always be those of us who will first and foremost look out for each other, and that will be our legacy. Our capacity for love is so great, and so inspiring, and so god damn motherfucking PURE and AMAZEBALLS that it is the only force slowly — BUT YOU BETTER BELIEVE SURELY — changing the world.
Hate washes over us, it waxes and wanes, it goes with the tide. But love is constant. Love, hope, and kindness are ever present and god damn it, it's a great fucking time to be in the world. Because where there is hate, there is always people fighting it, and whether you have to fight with your fists or your voice do not ever let anyone make you feel like you aren't the powerful sunbeam of glorious energy that you are. I don't care if you are fighting in the riots or just peacefully defending your ship on tumblr.
YOU FUCKING MATTER AND THE WORLD WOULD BE LESS WITHOUT YOU. AND DON'T YOU FUCKING FORGET IT GOD DAMN IT!
It doesn't matter how big the fight is, it only matters that you FIGHT!
And that's why I think the world is wonderful.
