That about sums it up for today’s run, the final leg of the @nyctriathlon #nycvirtual #duathlon. The heat index was over 100° and there was no way I was hitting any kind of a goal time today. I didn’t start at a #10k effort, slower on purpose, but I learned very quickly even that wasn’t going to work today. So I had to slow it down even more. This course goes five loops around #fthuntpark and I had enough foresight to set a drink bottle on the side of the road so I could take some fluid on board if necessary then toss the bottle back into the grass. That definitely helped keep me going on the 4th and 5th lap. I was also grateful that this loop has some shady stretches 🌳🌳 because the open sun stretches were brutal. Anyway, I completed the event in 2:33:49 which is probably about what I expected. With different weather conditions today I probably could have made it in under 2:30. I have a benchmark though, to work on beating. Before all the #covid19 realities started setting in, I had said I wanted to do at least one #multisport event this summer. So I ticked that box. ✅ Now as a finisher and #ltemployee, I get guaranteed entry to next year’s event, which will hopefully be live and in person. #runblr #fitblr #summerrunning #theheatison #keepshowingup (at Fort Hunt Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCwueTwnoKK/?igshid=sykltjqig2os
