This is really just me projecting but Janus coming out as nonbinary to someone close to them who doesn't understand why they would want to be something in between. Janus is heartbroken but they have other family/friends to reassure them that they love them and are proud of them. I don't really care what characters you go with, though I would prefer if you didn't make Logan or Patton sympathetic. - loveceit

You never really think itâll happen to you. That youâll be the to end up telling stories of losing people because of your identity. You expect that itâll be easy, that all the worry will be for nothing, because this is not the past and people are better now, more tolerant, or at least more willing to listen and try.Â
Janus doesnât expect the intolerance to be quite so gentle, either, and thatâs almost worse. Shouting and harsh words they could handle, theyâd prepared for that, steeling their shoulders in readiness to fight back. But the soft, too sweet concern they had no way of battling. The genuine care in the words, âWe just donât understand, we donât want you to have a tough life, why would you want to go through all that when you could just be happy?â
It hurts more than anything else.Â
They cry that night, wrapped up in the arms of their blessed roommates, thanking every piece of luck that had led them to that tiny college town, to these people. To their new family, who drop everything to make sure they feel better, feel loved. Feel real and valid and most importantly; happy.Â
Because it sucks right now, it really does. But Janus will be happy again, and screw anyone who says different.
perhaps something moceit where patton learns janus is nb/genderfluid and is really supportive?
You got it! Hereâs a short but sweet one. Iâd love to hear what you think and reblogs are always really appreciated. Have a good day/night!Â

Bursting With Love [Moceit]
Janus sits up at the kitchen table, wringing their hands and waiting anxiously for Patton to get home. Theyâve been debating telling Patton for weeks now before finally deciding to bite the bullet and get it over with. Regardless of how things go, which Janus really canât imagine will be too bad realistically, at least theyâll have gotten it off their chest. But now Pattonâs running a bit late and their heart is pounding in their chest as the nerves come creeping in.
It wouldnât make sense for Patton to react poorly, really. Heâs pansexual, after all, and heâs dated boys, girls and everything in between in the past. And Pattonâs been such a positive influence in Janusâs life since theyâve known him, always so caring and gentle. If anything, thereâs nothing to worry about. Pattonâs a good man, heâll understand that Janus has been keeping this from him, heâll get itâŚright?
Janus hasnât been keeping a secret per se, at least not for very long, anyhow. The subject of their gender is something thatâs always been a bit of a confusing subject, but for much of their life Janus they had merely assumed that they didnât enjoy much of what was considered traditionally masculine. But things havenât been sitting right with them lately, especially words like âboyfriendâ and certainly not âhe.â Pattonâs such a sweetheart that he often speaks about Janus with fondness to anyone whoâll listen, but hearing Patton go on and on about his âamazing boyfriend,â is something thatâs put a pit in their stomach.
They just want things to go well. The idea, though probably foolish, of Patton leaving is one the worst things Janus can consider. Theyâre trying not to dwell on unrealistic worst-case scenarios, reminding themself very much of their friend Virgil, but it canât really be helped.
Janus stiffens when the front door swings open and Patton steps into the apartment, looking a little frazzled but smiling when he sees them nonetheless.
âHi honey, sorry Iâm late,â Patton says as Janus rises to greet him, accepting the hug and quick kiss Patton offers, âtraffic was a nightmare. How was your day?â
âFine,â Janus lies as they pull away, not missing the look of concern that flashes in Pattonâs eyes. They try to swallow down their nerves, not wanting to rush into everything right after Pattonâs gotten home, âDo you want any help with dinner?â
The offer for assistance seems to distract Patton from any suspicions, putting a bright smile on his face.
âAw, arenât you sweet for offering? That sounds exscalent!â Janus chuckles lightly at that, knowing itâs a pun based on the two-headed snake tattoo thatâs on their left arm. Pattonâs been making puns about it since they met, and Janus canât imagine it stopping anytime soon. They act like they donât like Pattonâs puns, but Patton knows better. Really, Janus has always found it pretty darn adorable.
The couple prepare dinner together, chatting idly about their days. Patton mentions the dog he saw someone walking on his lunchbreak, claiming it to be, âThe fluffiest, cutest puppy Iâve ever seen!â Pattonâs been hinting at wanting a dog for some time now, Janus is only waiting for him to ask directly. Â The idea of having a pet together is so disgustingly domestic that is almost completely distracts Janus from what theyâd set out to do. Almost.
A silence falls over the couple as they eat dinner before Janus feels Patton squeezing their hand from under the table, a soft, slightly worried expression on his face.
âIs everything okay, hon? Youâve been really quiet tonight.â God bless Pattonâs kindness, Janus really wasnât sure how they were going to breach the subject.
âUh, yeah. Iâm fine itâs just,â Janus takes a deep breath, still holding Pattonâs hand, âCan I talk to you about something?â
âOf course, Jan. Whatâs on your mind?â Janus bites their lip, mind once again swelling with panic. What ifâs and worst-case scenarios swirl and Janus fears they might get caught up in it before Patton offers their hand another gentle squeeze. âHey,â his voice is soft and reassuring, âwhatever it is, Iâm here. Itâs gonna be okay.â
Janus nods, inhaling and exhaling sharply before speaking.
âOkay. Iâve been thinking a lot lately and Iâve come to the realization that IâmâŚnot a man.â Janus sees a look flash in Pattonâs eyes, not one of malice or disgust, but rather mere surprise.
âI see.â
âIâm not a woman though, either,â they clarify quickly, âI think Iâm â no, I know Iâm nonbinary. I realize gendered-pronouns just donât really sit right with me. So, uh, yeah.â
Janusâs brings their gaze up from the table to Patton, scanning his face and feeling a wave of relish wash over them as their boyfriendâs lips curled into a proud smile.
âIâm so proud of you for telling me, Jan,â he says, standing up and wrapping Janus in a somewhat awkward hug, âThat canât have been easy.â
âSo, you donât care?â Janus doesnât mean to sound as awestruck as they do.
âOf course not, honey. Maybe Iâm a little surprised, but I love you no matter what. Youâre my wonderful â,â Patton pauses hesitantly for a moment, âpartner? Is that okay?â Janus breaks out in a bright grin, wrapping their arms around their boyfriend.
âPartnerâs perfect, Pat. I love you too. So much.â Janus stands up from their chair, accepting a more comfortable embrace from Patton whoâs smiling so bright and pressing kiss after kiss to their face.
Janus feels all of their anxieties draining away, realizing there had never been any reason to doubt him. Pattonâs always been amazing, through and through, and this is no exception. How did they ever get this lucky?
The rest of the evening passes regularly with the pair watching a few episodes of She-Ra theyâve already seen before. Janus smiles as Patton points at the character Double-Trouble, saying excitedly: âTheyâre nonbinary just like you!â Janus is almost positive he chose episodes with the character on purpose, but the small gesture is appreciated. Patton's already being so supportive, and Janus is so incredibly thankful.
Janus sends their friend Remus a quick text explaining that things went well, receiving back an enthusiastic âFUCK YEAH!â that makes them chuckle lightly before they slide into bed with Patton. Janus melts into their boyfriendâs embrace as always, drifting to sleep relieved and so, so happy.
And when Janus finds Patton practicing their pronouns under his breath in the morning? Well Janus is fairly certain their heart is going to burst with love.

â
The day Roman met Dante was the worst day of his life.
Not because of them. The two events were unrelated. (Timeâs just funny that way).
But the fact remains that Danteâs first words to him were âWell donât you look like shit. What happened, did the Beast steal your Belle?â
To Dâs credit, they had no idea what an effect their words would have. But that didnât stop Roman from flipping them off as he started to cry all over their bar again.
And that left them with a choice. Ignore the crying man, as theyâve ignored so many bar patrons, passing him drinks in silence until he drinks himself into becoming a part of it. It would be a little different - most patrons arenât in an outfit that looks straight out of a Disney coloring book. But they could do it. Or, instead, they could do this.
âForgive me, Princey, that was uncalled for. Let me get you a drink, you tell me all about it, hmm?â
And the man dressed like a prince looked up, tears still leaking out of his eyes, and nodded.Â
Dante was a professional. They prided themselves on the ability to match a drink to a mood - not always what their patrons wanted, but always what they needed. And what this face needed was maudlin, but not self-pitying. Something with some sweetness, but complexity.
âUn Vieux Carre pour le monsiuer,â they said with a smile, sliding the elegant cocktail to land in the manâs immediately open hand.Â
âMerci beaucoup,â he responded, almost automatically. He took a sip, and paused, looked down into the glass, and carefully took a second, swirling it in his mouth.
âLike it? Itâs a New Orleans classic,â Dante said, leaning on the bar. It was a quiet Tuesday night, they had time to chat. âLet me know what you think, or if you want, you can tell me why royalty is getting weepy in my bar tonight.â
Tears started leaking once more.
âOr we can start with your name?â
âRoman.â
âGood evening, Roman. Iâm Dante. If you forgot about seeing the sign already, this is The Snakeâs Den bar, and Iâm the snake. Now that weâre all caught up, howâs that drink-â
âItâs my fucking boyfr- my fucking ex!â Roman cried out suddenly, interrupting the bartenderâs calm voice. âThat absolute- he just- and then he-!â and there were tears leaking down his face again, but hotter now, dripping with anger and not just despair. He swigged more of his drink, and kept talking, words tumbling out like a burst dam.
âWeâd been together for years, and I thought it was perfect, ya know, we were both actors! We understood the struggle together! And heâd encourage me to try out for the big parts that I would have only dreamed of, but I actually got some of them! And then this- this fucking play, itâs only my childhood dream, and he says, âOh, wouldnât it be fun to be castmates?â and we both audition, me for the Beast and him for Gaston, but then it turns out, oh, actually, he went the FUCK behind my back and auditioned for the Beast too!â
Dante listened, nodding and humming in understanding, a perfect sounding board. âThat must have been tense when he told you,â they offered sympathetically.
Roman slumped at that. âI wish. My friend texted me that the cast list had been posted and I wasnât on it. I told him I was on the way to his place cause I needed to talk, and before I could get there, he⌠broke up with me. Via text message.â
In spite of themself, Dante gasped aloud. âHe did not!â
âHe did! Like, am I in some fuckinâ teenage melodrama?! Did I somehow date a cartoonishly terrible villain in a DCOM?!â
Dante nodded sagely. âPerhaps thatâs why he didnât go for Gaston - he wouldnât have had to act at all.â
Roman leaned forward, eyes flashing. âAnd you know whatâs even worse?! Heâd been helping me prepare for my audition and listening to all the ideas Iâve had for how I would play the Beast, if I got the chance! But I didnât want to make too bold a choice in the audition room, so I was holding out. And that piece of shit used my idea to get the part!â
âA scoundrel and a thief!â
âAnd you know the absolute worst part?â
âWhat?â
Roman seemed to freeze as his thought connected from brain to mouth and he processed it fully. His shoulders slumped. âI wish heâd take me back.â
Dante stood up straight. âMy dear Roman emperor, let me be the first to tell you: bullshit. To quote a wise scholar: âHe doesnât deserve you! If he doesnât treat you right by now, youâre gone.ââ
Roman smiled weakly. âBut he- he pushed me, in my acting. He was my fire, the one who encouraged me to be ambitious and dream big and- without him⌠I donât know that Iâll be able to.â
Dante nodded. They spoke softly, calmly. âRoman, Iâm going to say something that might be hard to hear. His actions in these auditions? They showed that not only did he not respect this dream, but he never respected any of them. He only wanted you to succeed as far as it made him look good.â
Roman scowled. âHe was an ass, but he wasnât that, he wasnât just a manipulative bastard, he believed in me-â
âHe didnât,â Dante interrupted. They were still calm, almost gentle. âHe believed in his ability to keep pushing you to be an asset to him. Until it wasnât beneficial anymore.â
âNo-â
âAnd you knew this, deep down. And that part of you wasnât taken by surprise.â
Roman stared, his face a mask of many emotions at once - confusion, heartbreak, denial, acceptance, but what won out was rage.
âYou know what? Fuck you, I donât need your psychoanalysis bullshit! Hasnât my day been hard enough? See you fucking never!â
Dante watched him storm out, leaving the rest of his drink. A man in a prince costume, disappearing into the night. If it had been a decent narrative, it would have been raining.
But narratives arenât often perfect.
Neither are promises made in anger.
Dante looked up to see Roman arriving back at The Snakeâs Den only days later, looking a bit chagrined and only slightly less regal out of costume.
âBarkeep, I regretfully did not pay for my drink at our last encounter, and have come to rectify it.â
Dante nodded graciously. âWhile I appreciate your integrity, it was on the house.â
âNevertheless, I insist that you accept payment.â
âWhy donât you have another, keep me company on slow evening?â they suggested.
Roman hesitated for all of a second before sitting down once more, the same stool as the last time.
Two months later, it was Romanâs Stool and no one dared occupy it even in his absence, unless it was truly and utterly packed.
In two months more, Roman had dragged friends to the Den too, but none became a fixture the way the actor was.
And one week after that, it was another quiet evening. A Tuesday, just as it had been before. (Time is rather funny that way).
And in one of the comfortable silences that patron and bartender often found themselves sliding into and out of with ease, Roman cleared his throat.
Dante looked up. âYes, darling?â Their nicknames and pet names had escalated the day Roman realized he needed an honorific besides âsirâ or âmadamâ and had chosen âdearest,â but neither of them seemed to mind.
âMy dear, I- remember what you said, that first night?â
Dante pursed their lips. âOf course I do. And I stand by it.â
Roman nodded. âIâŚÂ I know you do. I know you wouldnât lie to me.â
âI might lie to other people though,â they pointed out blandly. âLike the people who come in with a sob story when itâs all just their own choices. Because the boss said I canât call people âsad sacks of pathosâ any more.â
âYour way with words will never fail to delight me, my Divine Comedian. I know you didnât think it was a lie, but I didnât fully believe you until recently.â
Dante put down their cleaning cloth and leaned in near their friend. âMay I be so bold as to ask what changed?â
âSo this will sound a little melodramatic-â
âYou? Dramatic? Perish the thought.â
âFuck you too, my sweet serpent.â
Dante blew a kiss and fluttered their eyelashes at him. âPardon me, I interrupted you, you were saying?â
Roman shifted in his seat, adjusting without meeting Danteâs eyes. âI didnât want to believe you, that that bastard was never cheering me on for my sake alone. Because- I said he was my fire, and I meant it. He was determined, and ambitious, and I thought that him urging me on meant that I was sharing in it. He was burning red, and that was what I wanted to be, and I thought I could be an equal flame where we burned stronger together.â
Dante nodded, humming quietly in understanding without interrupting.Â
âBut instead, I was just the candle that helped him burn brighter while slowly melting away. I was always so exhilarated with him, excited but then so exhausted. I always wanted to be more, or wanted to be what he wanted, at least. And he always wanted more. I tried and tried and I could never be enough because he just⌠he drained me.â A single tear leaked out and courses down Romanâs tan cheek.Â
Dante reached over and wrapped their hand around his, and squeezed. âLove could look like that, could look like encouragement and ambition. But I donât think thatâs what you had, Ro.â
Roman blinked up at them. Both realized it was the first nickname based on their actual name that either had used. âSo I wasnât just a fool to think he really meant it?â
âOf course not, sweetheart. He was the fool, to not fully appreciate you.â
The lights of the bar shone through tawny bottles of liquor and glinted off the brass trappings, bathing them in a warm glow. Roman looked up at Dante, and he could have sworn they were absorbing the light and releasing it anew, their golden skin practically incandescent. And their smile, softening as they looked at Roman, focused on brushing away the dampness from his face, a careful and doting look that they never directed at their other friends.
Roman swallowed hard. âDante, darling?â
They met his eyes, face lighting with a smile that rivaled the sun. âYes, Roman?â
âI think I know what love looks like, now.â
âAnd whatâs that?â
Roman rose up to Danteâs eye level, cupping their cheek in his hand. âItâs golden,â he breathed out, before their lips met.

Loganâs phone buzzes with a text. He pulls it out of his pocket and unlocks it one-handed, the other hand still typing furiously. Once itâs open, he glances over to see the text is from his boyfriend, a âHey babyâ with several extra yâs and followed by about a dozen emojis.
He sends a âHello.â and goes back to typing, setting his phone on the table beside him as he waits for Remyâs next text.
Sure enough it comes a few seconds later, an inquiry to how heâs doing with several flower emojis at the end.
Truthfully? Heâs got a paper half-written thatâs due tomorrow, and heâs very stressed. But if he told Remy this, his boyfriend would worry and possibly try to drag him from the library to get some rest or something. Which would be sweet of him, but he does not have the time for that.
Logan sends him a âFine.â and hopes Remy wonât press. He doesnât; in fact he doesnât send another text, which Logan realizes about 10 minutes later.
He looks at his phone, the screen off, then shrugs and goes back to working. Heâll ask later, once this paperâs done and submitted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
âVirgil!â Remy calls as he bursts into the room and flops onto the couch dramatically. Virgil hisses at him and pulls his feet up onto the sofa arm with the rest of him.
âWhat do you want,â Virgil deadpans. Remy ignores his irritation.
âCan I borrow your coffin?â He asks. âAnd hide out here for the foreseeable future?â
âWhy?â
âLoganâs mad at me.â
âOh, shit,â Virgil winces.
âI know,â Remy groans. Virgil pats his leg sympathetically.
âHave you started working out the funeral details?â Virgil asks.
âD said theyâd video it for posterity, Roman and Patton both said theyâd come, though Pattonâs âsure itâs not that bad, kiddo, why donât you just talk to him about it?ââ Remy mimics Pattonâs tone almost perfectly.
Virgil shakes his head. âPatâs too sweet to draw Loganâs ire; he doesnât know how bad it is.â
âSunshine incarnate,â Remy agrees.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By the next day, theyâve got everything set up. Roman loaned him one of his easels and Patton got him a wreath, and so Remy has a nice little stand with a picture of him on it. And Virgilâs coffin beside him, of course.
Theyâd all gathered together with their nicest black clothing, fit for a funeral (although D insisted on keeping their beanie, and Virgil hadnât actually dressed differently than he normally does at all, but D gets an excuse since theyâre filming and Virgil dresses in all black anyway and itâs close enough, okay, let Remy have this; if heâs going to die then heâs going to be as extra as possible about it).
âAre we all ready?â Remy asks. Getting nods from everyone, Remy nods to D to start videoing and begins his speech.
âWe are gathered here today to honor the memory of me. Iâm not sure what I did yet, but I probably deserved it.â
Heâs about to go on, whenâ
âRemy?â Logan asks, coming over with the most adorably confused expression on his face, and any other day Remy would be glad to see him, but not when heâs mad at him and Remyâs literally hosting his own funeral.
âLogan!â Remy yelps, and tries to hide behind Virgil, who shoves him back into his spot and hisses, âOh, no, you donât.â
âAre youââ Logan is looking around with bewilderment. âAre you holding a funeral? For yourself?â
âYeeeees?â Remy says, stretching the word out like that will delay the inevitable.
âWhy?â
âYouâre mad at him,â D tells Logan.
âIâ no?â Logan says. He turns to Remy. âWhy do you think Iâm mad at you?â
âWait, youâre not?â Remy asks. Logan shakes his head. âBut when I texted you yesterday then you sounded mad at me! I thought you hated me!â
âI was just too busy to give detailed response,â Logan tells him.
âOh,â Remy grins, relieved.
Logan smiles back at him. Then his gaze moves past him and the smiles morphs into a frown of confusion. âWhere did you get this coffin?â
âVirgil,â Remy tells him.
âSup,â Virgil adds, flashing a peace sign.
âWhy do you have a coffin?â
âSleep,â Virgil says, and offers no further explanation. Remy can see Loganâs decision not to ask, which is probably a wise one.
Remy steps over to Logan, leans his head on his shoulder. âSo youâre really not mad at me?â
âI promise, love,â Logan says, wrapping his arm around Remy in a slightly awkward hug. âI was just busy; I had a paper due today that I needed to get done.â
âOkay,â Remy says. He leans up to kiss Loganâs cheek. âI love you.â
âI love you too,â Logan returns, kissing him back.
