okay, as a joke i was gonna say the godfather, because it'd be funny, but my actual answer is casablanca. quiet, classical tragic romances, that are barely happy in the end.

pre-timeskip (or even pre-alabasta), i would say nico robin. it was the closest he had really ever gotten to trust with someone, but he kept promises and business at the forefront, which ultimately led to their partnership's demise. regardless, the four years they were together, they developed an understanding of each other, and an almost intimate ability to care for each other. it was mutually beneficial, anyway. now, the closest person he has to comforting is daz bones, but daz also has a bit more autonomy and disconnect with the cross guild vs baroque works. staying near crocodile is now only out of loyalty. crocodile values loyalty - the idea that daz has no reason to disappoint him or abandon him is comforting. third option is mihawk. you know why.

headcanons ask game. 15: biggest pet peeve?
he has anger issues. most things could be considered a pet peeve - however, people dancing around subjects annoys him a lot. when someone is trying to allude to something in a conversation with him. just fucking say it. it saves more time and saves him the headache of not knowing if he's catching on to your euphemisms or not.
17: whatβs something they like that may be surprising to others?
music. well, sure, everyone likes music, but he used to be a musician on his first pirate crew. it was sort of his way of just being a necessary part of the crew, without having to be in the way all the time or really noticed by anyone. he always tried to stay in the background when sailing with others he didn't really know, especially after he was scarred across his face. at home, he keeps an old dusty mandolin, which needs to be restrung. its slightly water damaged, but its his. he got it when he was a teenager and he took care of it as he learned to play it. but. . . unfortunately, it is a two-handed instrument. sometimes he still sits down and tries though.
