Oooh, I have asks in my inbox! *unreasonable excitement* This is my first one, but there’s another ask about Devotion so I’ll talk about the Mordelia one here and Devotion separately. Thank you so much for asking!

So I actually thought it was something else when I read my half-assed title, because there’s a running bit in the fic where Mordelia keeps mistakenly framing the boys’ more innocent activities as ‘having sex’ and I figured this was one of those scenes. It isn’t! (Although that’s why Baz says what he does.) This is set a bit early in the fic and Baz and Simon are just settling into a kind of unwilling affection toward each other. Baz has known who Simon is for most of his life and has been secretly harboring feelings for him for about that long, and meanwhile Simon grew up not really knowing anything about Baz specifically, but he was aware that the Pitches were one of the Old Families that the Mage has turned him against. It’s never a very convincing antipathy on either side. Simon believes that the Crucible doesn’t make mistakes, and Baz is just uselessly smitten ofc.

Baz’s relationship with his siblings fascinates me in the books—he’s such a typical teenager with his family, making Mordelia leave his room and knock to come in again, telling her he’ll stop up the chimneys etc. At the same time we really get to see a soft, nurturing side of him with his young siblings—it’s unexpected and sweet, and I tried to play into it in this fic. There’s a number of scenes with Baz’s sibs and I loved writing all of them. The way he is with his sisters and brother helps Simon to see past the snark and antagonism.

relationship will develop?? i love jordelia so much already but at the same time i keep thinking about the potential matthewcordelia has especially since matthew (and cordelia) are convinced that james doesn’t love her. is it stupid to hope that they will happen despite the “herondale only love once” thing and the second love never being the one they end up with?

I mean, you can hope for anything! I do feel like there’s a certain chaos yearning in Matthew/Cordelia shippers which I relate to. Some shippers just want to see the world burn. :) Matthew and Cordelia are definitely closer and spend time together in COI; they even take a road trip. That’s all I can say.
