A couple months ago my doctor prescribed modafinil for my fatigue. It's a non-amphetamine stimulant usually used for narcolepsy or other sleep disorders, which I do not have. She was more comfortable prescribing it for my chronic fatigue than trying LDN because this drug is for fatigue and she's prescribed it before.
I'm not sure it's done much for my fatigue, but it has had an interesting effect on my dysautonomia, especially OI. I don't get as nauseous and awful feeling if I'm standing, and I can change positions (laying to standing) without feeling dizzy. This is a huge win. There's some evidence it can be helpful for POTS (I don't have a POTS diagnosis, but I'm assuming it helps OI through the same mechanism).
So now I'm at a place where I'm wondering if I should stay on it for the things it is helping, or push for the LDN to see if I can get help for the fatigue and brain fog.
This is also a worst case scenario for testing it - we've been looking for a house since May, my youngest graduated high school, we thought we had a house and then it fell through, my car was totaled (no injuries! everyone was ok!), and then we did buy a house but it doesn't close until Aug. 20. I'm also looking for a new job for after we move, because it's either that or a big pay cut.
So it's been a little stressful, which is hard when your chronic illness is impacted by stress. So maybe it is helping with the fatigue, but the level of stress makes that hard to notice?
