Some old Iliad doodles
Madeline Miller wasted a great opportunity by not writing how pissed off Menalaus and the greeks were after Patroclus's death. Instead, in TSOA, just Achilles is sad over his death (by what I remember). In the Iliad, it is mentioned that he was kind, a healer and good with a spear, so he would be popular in the army, right? I think that, by writing this whole commotion in the greek army, Patroclus's death in TSOA would have had more impact than it already has.
