Day 2: Family, Friends, Loved Ones
(A little modern au Drabble for my 100 favs â¤ď¸)
Monty hasnât seen his family in years. Itâs not that he doesnât want to. Itâs just that⌠they slowly drifted apart. Montyâs worldview gradually changed as he learned more about it and the struggles others have to overcome.
Heâs grateful for his parents. They helped him get to where he is now. He still loves them â cherishes them â and would drop everything if they ever need him, but thereâs a line between them that he canât seem to erase anymore.
Someone in the house shouts in dismay as the sounds of children laughing follow shortly after. Video games play from the television in the other room. Something heavenly wafts in from the kitchen. Monty has no doubt Murphy is cooking something amazing.
His home is boisterous. His home is lived in and full of love. There are small notches in the door frame to the right, where Lexa nicked the wood every year on Jordanâs birthday to show how much heâs grown. Beside it, are similar notches for her and Clarkeâs daughter, Madi.
Monty smiles at the permanent marks, remembering how upset Harper had been at first. But then Lexa talked about how they needed to make their mark to show the world that they were there, and Harper caved.
âWhat are you so deep into thought about?â Harper asks as she falls onto the couch beside him. Thereâs a soft smile on her face and a shine in her eyes. A strand of hair falls into her face, and Monty brushes it back. His fingers slowly follow the curve of her face.
âJust how lucky I am to have everyone here,â he whispers, knowing that itâs true to his very core. She beams at him, and Monty doesnât know what heâd ever do without her or Jordan in his life.
Harper shifts until sheâs pressed against his side. Monty wraps an arm around her shoulders, keeping her close. If they close their eyes and focus, they can hear Lincoln and Clarke discussing various art styles, Emori and Murphy singing along to the rock song playing from the stereo, and Octavia yelling at Bellamy to stop giving her âhelpfulâ tips while sheâs trying focus on her game.
âFamily comes in all shapes and sizes,â Harper whispers, pressing a kiss to his cheek. She hugs him around the middle so she can comfortably rest her cheek on his shoulder. They sit in silence as they let the sounds of their loved ones wrap around them.
Just then, Murphy appears in the doorway with an apron covering his front and looking more domestic than Monty has ever seen him. He doesnât even glance at the couple as he yells into the house, âDinnerâs ready you psychopaths and delinquents!â
Thereâs a chorus of laughter and groans from within the house, but everyone starts to move and the house comes alive at the prospect of dinner. Monty grins as Harper pulls him to his feet in time for Jordan to wrap his tiny arms around his legs. Family really does come in all shapes and sizes.
