After six years in the Shallow Valley following Praimfaya, the lives of Clarke, Roan, their daughter Eden, and Madi are upended with the arrival of new and dangerous visitors. Not desiring an repeat of the conflict the Arkers had with the Wood Clan, Clarke decides to extend the olive branch. As they try to help them adjust to this new Earth, Clarke finds herself in the middle of a conflict with two warring factions, with Colonel Charmaine Diyoza’s right hand man plotting to seize the reins of power.
Meanwhile, Bellamy and Echo and six of their friends hope that things on Earth will be better this time. Abby finds herself sinking deeper into an addiction despite her best efforts to become clean. As those in the Bunker make the move to the Valley, Luna tries to see to it that the Valley isn't their only option for survival on an mostly uninhabital Earth.
Things get more complicated when someone from one of the Eligius III missions comes to Earth.
“If any of you can hear me, if you’re alive, it’s been two thousand, one hundred and ninety-nine days since Praimfaya,” Clarke began, holding down the button on the radio. “I don’t know why we still do this every day. Maybe it’s our way of keeping hope, that our friends are still alive.” She pauses. “It’s been safe for you to come down for over a year now. Why haven’t you?” Another pause. “The bunker’s gone silent, too. We tried digging them out for a while, but there was too much rubble. We haven’t made contact with them, either. Anyway, we still have hope. Raven, aim for the one spot of green, and you’ll find us. The rest of the planet, from what we’ve seen, basically sucks, so –”
Clarke is interrupted from her session when she hears a disturbance in the sky. Looking up, she sees what looks like an small ship descend from the sky. Hope and relief filling every cell in her body as she slowly stands up. After six years, there’s only one explanation of who they might be.
“Never mind, I see you,” she breathes into the radio.
“Mom, is it them!?” pipes up Eden as Clarke could sense Roan beside her.
How Clarke saw it, who else could it be?
