Selena and Laslow grew up with Odin. they share the same traumas/experiences and they’re the only ones in Nohr/Fateslandia who Know. They have a close bond built from years of working together and fighting side by side. They probably baby him a bit, but in the words of my friend “Odin’s the most well-adjusted of the three of them, if Odin loses his sense of whimsy they’re FUCKED.”

Meanwhile, Leo and Niles both initially HATED Odin and wanted him gone. But none of their methods worked, until eventually they gave up and were like ‘fine, I guess he can stay’. He’s somehow managed to earn Leo and Niles’ trust without even trying/just by being himself. 

So each party mutually views Odin as their like…’emotional support white guy’ but can’t really stand the other two. They have to play nice though, because they know they’re all important people in Odin’s life.

As in, while Odin may have never noticed Leo’s earlier attempts to be rid of him (he noticed Niles bc it was blatant, Odin just didn’t care), Selena and Laslow did. And while they’re both protective of Odin, Selena especially is Very protective over her friends. Only she can bully him. I think that there was perhaps a moment where they notice it, and after Odin walks away Selena is rolling up her sleeves ready to hit someone (Leo) and Laslow is having to hold her back with a ‘Selena, if he finds out it will crush his spirit. If he’s doing all this because he legitimately thinks Leo trusts him and finds out the truth, he’ll fail.’ Also addition but I also don’t think Selena likes how Leo treats Camilla (aka dismisses her) and it’s really having her spewing. Why are two of her best friends so nice to this asshole? 

Leo is indifferent towards her (misogyny). Her and Niles have a mutual dislike of each other going on (yes, they’re both the trope of ‘mean to hide a heart of gold’ but they probably aren’t the biggest fans of looking in the mirror)

Meanwhile, Leo knows that Laslow’s smiles are fake and thinks that it's nefarious/he wants something. Niles figured out that it’s just him masking his depression, but thinks it's funnier to have Leo overthinking it. Also Leo is jealous of Laslow's closeness to Odin and refuses to admit it, even to himself.

Laslow, on the other hand, has probably heard a lot of baby stories about Leo from Xander (Selena ofc heard them from Camilla too but she’s tuning it out out of spite) and has a bit of a distant impression of Leo going on.

The first words out of Niles’ mouth when he opened the door were, “Why do you smell like baby oil?” Owain refused to blush. If the room suddenly got warmer, that was a side effect of a magical curse that affected him periodically. “This fragrance is part of the aesthetic of a new character I am trying out.” Niles looked down. His gaze lingered on the gray stains on Owain’s black jeans. “Oh, you were rolling out clay today, huh?” “The oil made of children—” “Made for children.” “—is quite adequate for keeping the sticky tendrils of this material we deem ‘clay’ from sticking to skin.”

Perhaps, in hindsight, Odin might figure out what went wrong. What steps he could have taken to prevent this, where he needs to train to become stronger. Perhaps, in hindsight, Odin can pick apart the battle step-by-step, though if he has to use his findings to fight yet another fell dragon he’ll be pretty frustrated.

“On your right,” Niles’s voice says just before he appears to Odin’s right, arrow at the ready. “Lord Leo’s just behind me.”

As expected, Leo’s enormous hellhorse halts behind them, its dark presence almost as large as its rider’s. A glow behind them. Vines shoot up from the cracks in the stone floor and wrap around an unseen foe and Odin shoots a thunderous calamity where its head probably is. It disappears into dust and the vines move onto the next victim.

They’re carving their way through invisible soldiers toward the center of the battlefield where Corrin faces Anankos with only Jakob and Silas at their side, the rest of the army was scattered throughout the cavern and forced to play crowd control with Anankos’s invisible soldiers, and the occasional dodge of his beastly claws and breath attacks. Odin and Niles split under one such claw attack and return together when his monstrous hand retreats.

“Kinda sexy, if you think about it,” Niles quips.

“I recognize the appeal,” Odin says back, “A battle to one of our demises, evil oozing from his very core. It’s very —”

“Erotic,” Niles finishes for him. That’s not what Odin was gonna say, but he’ll let him have this.

“Stay focused on the fight,” Leo scolds from behind them. Niles goes silent but a smirk still adorns his face. It’s when he’s admiring Niles’s expression that he sees it.
