Oblique-banded Leafroller Moth (Choristoneura rosaceana), taken May 20, 2026, in Georgia, US
A shy moth perched on the edge of a leaf, waiting to see if I make any scary movements! Although adult leafroller moths don't roll leaves, their larvae do! If you've ever seen a suspiciously folded leaf, there may have been some kind of moth larva living in there. There are tons of arthropods that roll, bend, or stitch leaves to make homes. Leaves are both pliant and sturdy, and, for moths, they have the added bonus of being edible—everything a growing caterpillar could need!
