Female Andrena haemorrhoa on a dandelion flower :)
The common name for this species is the early mining bee and they're found across Europe during the warmer months.
Wasps have gotten a really bad reputation for being brutal and aggressive when engaging with humans, and it's really not a fair assessment at all! Most Wasps are solitary Wasps who are not aggressive or even particularly defensive of their own nests! I captured some footage of this native Yellow Legged Mud Dauber mom putting the finishing touches on one of the several nesting cells that she would construct in the short month or so that she'll yet live. Even when I see a Wasp, I might exercise some caution, out of habit, but once you know who you're hanging out with, you can let your guard down, most of the time! Most of them are friends!
🌿🪳Fever Dream🪲
A tingling within— an itch I cannot tear into. What is happening to me?
A spiderweb, like a great passage, cascades across my skin from a higher place. I feel the tingly lingering of moss-dwelling insects crawling to and fro along my legs.
I hear the popping of a roach within my ears, the pitter-patter of an ant upon my arm. My body is not my own, but a refuge for many warring things.
I am the world, slipping in and out of awareness. Soon, there will be nothing left of me but the echo and imprint of a crude, waning dream.
Let them live on. Let them war. I will become the field, the mountains, the cliff, the canyon— and one day, a city.
A city caught in war, to which I am numbly aware. My great green, slipping away into the cold gray.
I find it silly that people hate cockroaches so much because "they're invasive pests". No they aren't? HOUSEHOLD cockroaches are invasive pests, and they're actually among the minority of the species.
The majority of cockroaches live in the wild and you would not even know they aren't beetles or a different kind of insect. Even greenhouse cockroaches avoid humans and are only invasive to plants.
These specimen are all cockroaches (note that they come from multiple different countries and settings), and none of them will be living in your pantry anytime soon.
warning: insect pictures below!
