Can I talk about an absolute icon? Of course I can, this is my blog I do what I want.
I present to you: Marie de France. My absolute favorite french medieval author. She lived in the second half of the XII century and we basically know nothing about her. Except for her extraordinary literary work of course. Her masterpiece is a collection of twelve lais. And all of them are about love, often adulterous love, which pushes the plot forward. She mixes legends with court thematics and her stories take place in the real world. Her protagonists aren't Kings or anything like that, which for the time period I believe is a huge deal, but simple people! And what made me fall in love with her is this quote:
"He me nommerai pour n'être pas mis en oublie, j'ai nom marie, je suis originaire de France"
And it means, "I will give myself a name, so that I am not forgotten, my name is Marie, I am from France"
Try and tell me that is not a power move for her I dare you.
