ââŚAnd youâre sure this is all just for show?â
âOf course! Have I ever lied to you beforeâŚover anything of great import?â
Will Kenrith frowned, unconvinced by his sister Rowanâs argument. âI just donât see why we need to pretend to bicker. We get along just fine - into our young adult years! For most siblings, thatâs no easy task.â
âBut itâs a boring one!â quipped the red-clad planeswalker in return. âThis is Valorâs Reach! The crowd wants a show.â
âIs our magic not sufficient for that? Or, perhaps we could ride dragons into battle. Like that one pair: Khorvath andâŚSylvia?â
Rowan rolled her eyes. âThe dragon is one of the partners there, but thatâs not the point. This here is a perfect story: we two begin to bicker in the middle of a match. You know, put some uncertainty in the audienceâs hearts. We teeter on the edge of defeat for a while, unable to resolve our differences. Then, at the last moment, we âmake up,â and we win!â
Will mulled it over, slowly coming around. âAnd, nothing would change between us, off the field?â
âNever.â
ââŚDo you promise?â
âI promise.â Rowan put one hand on her chest and put the other into the air, palm open. âYou are my closest confidant, and a good friendâŚAnd, ah, I suppose youâre family, as well. My brother, and all.â
Will frowned.
âI would never do anything to betray any of that, now or ever. In the face of all that, this little show doesnât mean a thing.â
âWellâŚâ
âAnd besides! Weâre not even on Eldraine right now! Nobody at court even knows weâre here, let alone our parents. What, do you think another planeswalker would tattle on something as insignificant as this?â
âWellâŚall right!â Now that Will was convinced, he launched into the idea with much gusto. âShall I start the spat, or shall you?â
âWeâll take turns. Iâve got a whole act planned. Just to start, howeverâŚâ Rowan smirked. âOh, brother dearest. You know I shall lead.â
[Headcanon: the Kenrith twins got a taste of fame early, and it messed them up. There were other things at play, of course, but the celebrity stuff was definitely a contributing factor to their falling out during WOE.]
