maggid or spirit guides in Judaism
an angelic teacher, teller/revealer
A maggid manifests as a personification of Torah, Shekhinah, Wisdom, or Mishnah OR an angelic apparition (often pneumatic possession). They often appear spontaneously after intensive text study and ritual. It presents itself through automatic writing or borrowing the voice of those they're communicating with. It's a form of ruach ha-kodesh (divine inspiration), likened to the Greek concept of muses as a source of insight.
Questions I'm left with: Can we form long-term spiritual relationships with a maggid, as our spirit guides? As in, do we cultivate this relationship through communication, consistent study of faith/craft or designating space for them on our altar? Is a maggid representative of most/all spirit guides in Jewish mysticism if not, how else does this manifest?
