What Does It Mean To Be A Closed Practice - Hoodoo
Enslaved people from America by way of Africa created a system of survival and protection. They used what they knew, practiced, worshipped and learned. They hid their survival in words that were accepted by their enslavers. They used what they had on hand.
Those ancestors carried that knowledge in many ways to their children and so on. Those lessons that only enslaved people needed to learn to survive. Those stories and habits that kept them alive. It is a history that is shared only by those who are descendants of enslaved people in American Chattel Slavery of the Atlantic Slave Trade.
The ancestors that give Hoodoo it's power are THOSE souls and the souls and entities those ancestors transfered over from their tribes and villages and religions from Africa.
Why is it closed and who is it open to then...?
It is closed to those who do not have that ancestry. It is open to those who do... regardless of how far away they or their family may have moved. Regardless of if their family taught them or not. It is that Ancestral Memory that calls them to pick up salt or basil. That memory that causes them to pick a penny up face up or not split poles when walking in a group. That memory that says not to put their wallet or purse on the floor...or many of the other things they do, but don't know why.
Now, anyone can DO whatever they want, but understand that things come with energies. When someone steps in to take part in activities that were not created for them, those activities will not hold the same meaning or power as they would for someone who is connected to it.
A person does not need to be initiated into Hoodoo because it is already a part of them when they are born. It is their choice to enact that connection or not.
