Gonna be real gang, since I started using thursdays as my days to disconnect from everything and start writing, I've been doing a lot better mentally. Four weeks in and got an intro, the first chapter done and a decent way into the second.

You ever need to get out of bed but unfortunatley, cat?
Always kind of jealous of folks who can remember their dreams. Only time I seem to remember them is if they're nightmares, anything else? Poof! It's gone the minute I wake up. Thankfully nightmares are few and far between these days.. unless I try to sleep past 6am. Then I start having the insect/spider nightmares.
Get anon ask'd, nerd.
What's your top 3 favorite TTRPGs and why are they all horror themed?
Ah frick, I can't believe you've done this.
Okay So!
1)The ALIEN RPG - Evolved Edition: So I Love, LOVE ALIEN. It's a series that's near and dear to my heart. The books for the TTRPG contained all these neat little lore pieces that I just geeked out over as I recognised certain elements from the comics and the books. I also like that it's a rules light system that uses fear as a mechanic and storytelling element.
The game itself encourages the GM's to only ask for rolls when you need to make things tense. So an engineer (the profession not the species) knows how to run generators in parallel, they can do so without needing to roll for it, but tension gets added when you point out that they can hear a distant metallic purring sound and then ask them to make a relevant roll to make sure they haven't made too much noise or accidentally tripped the generators. If they fail they can always reroll but add the cost of being given a stress dice, which can complicate things further down the line as the characters begin to loose their nerves.
I also like the soft PvP elements you can add, by having designated friends and rivals, or the GM could look to one of the players in private and go "You're actually a WeYu synthetic, and you've been programmed with Special Order 937, Bring back Alien life form all other priorities rescinded, crew expendable." and watch the chaos unfold.
2) Blood on The Lense: Another REALLY good horror themed TTRPG, the thing that I like the most about this one is the twist system, it makes things a bit more collaborative as the players all suggest a twist and the GM/Director chooses the one they like. This coupled with the secret objectives and plot beats the characters can have can lead to some unexpected and really fun outcomes.
3) MOTHERSHIP 1st Edition: Backed 1e on kickstarter! This one stood out to me because it's a Sci-fi horror TTRPG that's also simple and to the point.
From character creation to how to run the game, it's very accessible for new players and GM's and like the ALIEN RPG it's got a good focus on Storytelling and character interactions, the players are driving the story forward with the guidance of the GM.
One element that I like is that while ALIEN is an established universe with the game system attached, MOTHERSHIP is just the system, so you could easily do your own setting with it's own lore, or run a game or a couple of one shots based on existing settings like ALIEN, or even John Carpenter's "The Thing".
