The Guardian of the Galaxy T.V show is kind of a mash up between the movie and comic book canon. In the show Ego is NOT Peter’s father instead it’s J’Son, King of Spartax, just like the comics. Yondu is still Captain of a Ravager faction, and he did abduct Peter for his father. But there is no hint that he abducted any other children or that he was exiled for it. 

There are other Ravagers. But they only appear once, and Peter seemed generally afraid of them calling them “far more dangerous than Yondu ever was” the reason for this fear is never stated nor was their a reason given for it (though it could be a hint that Yondu was exiled OR that Peter never saw Yondu as threatening in the first place).

Yondu’s personality is a bit different from his movie counterpart. He proves to be a master manipulator; Often playing at being submissive, shy, or even afraid of Quills friends. But, once their guards are down he immediately turns, and steals from them from right under their nose or outwits them to get what he wants.

In Fact, every time Yondu does run into Peter and the Guardians he doesn’t act like it’s anything dangerous, and in return the Guardians don’t really consider him a threat. Even though he could kill them easy. Which he has proved time and time again. One whistle and it’s over for the Guardians. But even so, whenever Yondu and the Guardians do get together, Yondu acts more like it’s a game than anything else. Even though Yondu does seem to hold a lot of resentment over Peter leaving the Ravagers, and he constantly brings it up whenever they cross paths.  

But one of the best things about this version of Yondu is when he abducted Peter for his father. It’s very much based off the movie version with some differences. J’Son hired Yondu to pick up, and ferry his son from Earth to Spartax. Somewhere along the way ether Yondu learned about J’Son plot to steal the Cosmic seed or on impulse told J’Son his son was dead when the Spartax King told Yondu that ”All Peter needs to know is that he’s a nothing Earther that’s been abducted by pirates. I don’t wanna see him, I don’t wanna know about him, until you’ve turned him into a proper thief. Until then, he’s of no use to me!” J’Son never knew his son was alive until Peter became a Guardian. But, because of Yondu’s lifestyle he did turn Peter into a thief.

So when Yondu says he raised Peter “Out of the goodness of his heart” he means it literally. He didn’t have to keep Peter after he told J’Son that his son was dead, but he did. And despite what Peter says most flashbacks we see of Peter with the Ravagers he’s having a good time and enjoying life. To be honest Peter’s resentment of Yondu is really misplaced since all Peter complaints about is that Yondu made him do chores. Hardly the candidate for abuse like the movies. It’s a writing flaw that makes Peter look like a spoiled jackass. I wish we got to see more of Yondu in this show and to see some of his backstory but there is not much to go off of. I can only assume that his past in this universe is a mix of comic and movie plots. He was too “rough and tumble” for his clan so they cut off his crest and sold him into slavery. It would have been a big motivator for Yondu to keep Peter but it never gets mentioned.....sigh  one of the best things about this Yondu tho? his design...omg I could stare at him for hours! finally someone gives him he pointy ears! cause Centaurian have pointy ears!
