So why did I post the commentary I posted on Thursday regarding trans bodies and lives? Why did I sacrifice half a dozen followers? Well, it’s because I need to keep my beliefs clear to myself and perhaps to others too. To me it is both a personal issue as well as a collectively hot-button issue. At the end of the day, my being trans is easy to understand but hard to comprehend. I won’t go further, because the simple fact is that male and female aren’t going away, and female as I may be, I’m colored by both. Yes there’s a bit of angst in me, you bet. This isn’t a simple issue. I can’t predict the future but we can’t resolve it simply. I’m a male woman, complete with feminized physical characteristics and other longform accessories. I have a voice that is varying degrees of weighty and flutey (probably more on the former side), and my legal name and gender remain male in spite of all you may now know of me. Whatever you perceive of as male, if you still do, is not of what you perceive of as female. Try to reconcile the two and I will have trouble consoling your quandary because you will not be able to negotiate it without mixing both, isolating one, or ignoring either — all of which denies reality. You will never be me and at basic instinct I consider you lucky. Perhaps that’s my ordeal. Somehow I remain graceful, usually — you might yet to have witnessed my yelling or busting of walls. I’m often not well. Being trans, or nonbinary, isn’t something you just are. It is a journey and contradiction enveloping multiple worlds, by definition, regardless of what they (whomever they may be) want you to believe. You will suffer and you will live. And if you are appreciative, perhaps you will thrive. But make no mistake.
